Eric Anders

Eric Anders is a Californian singer-songwriter.

Music career

Anders released his first album in 2003 at the age of 39.[1] Not at One was produced by Anders and Richard Barron. Anders collaborated on the songwriting with Mark O'Bitz and Benny Bohm.[2] Anders had begun writing songs for the album with Mark O'Bitz as early as December 2001.[3]

In 2004, Anders released the EP Songs for Wayward Days in protest of the upcoming presidential election and the reelection bid of George W. Bush. It was produced and mixed by Jeff Peters.[4]

In 2005, Anders released his second album, More Regrets,[5] a 47-minute ten-track album produced by Grammy-Award-winning guitarist Randy Ray Mitchell.[6] His third album, Tethered to the Ground, was released in 2006.[7] The album was produced by Matthew Emerson Brown.[8]

Two music videos were released from Tethered to The Ground: one for the title track, "Tethered To The Ground," and another for the Anders-O'Bitz-Brown collaboration and Gordon-Gano-approved "additional-lyrics" cover of "Blister In The Sun." According to Today's Retro, Anders' version of "Blister In The Sun" is "one of the best covers of any retro song to be heard.'[9]

Anders' first four releases were made up of songs mostly written in collaboration with Mark O'Bitz, and all were mixed by Jeff Peters.[10]

After a five-year break, Anders released the EP Remains In Me in 2011, also produced by Brown.[11] After another five-year break, in 2016, Anders released the collection Big World Abide: The Best of Eric Anders,[12] featuring songs from his previous albums.[13] All the songs were remastered by Jeff Peters.[14]

In 2017 Anders released the album Eleven Nine, which featured the Vilnius mural of Donald Trump kissing Vladimir Putin on its cover. The name of the album comes from the day on which President Trump was elected—the ninth of November[15]—as well as referencing the date of the 9/11 Attacks, another event that Anders sees as catastrophic to the U.S.[16] The proceeds of the album were donated to the Lambda Legal Fund.[17]

The first music video from the album was created for the track "This Fire Has Burned Too Long".[18] The second was for the song "Looking Forward to Your Fall."[19]

In June 2018, Anders released a ten-song album as a duo with guitarist-composer, Mark O'Bitz: Of All These Things.

In the fall of 2018, Anders and O'Bitz also released a single, "Matterbloomlight," which is an ode to the novel Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders.[20] Eric and Mark sent the song to George Saunders himself and Saunders found it to be "beautiful."

In July 2019, Anders and O'Bitz released their sophomore release as a duo: Ghosts To Ancestors.

In July 2020, Anders and O'Bitz released their third album as a duo, American Bardo. The album was produced and mixed by Mike Butler of San Diego and recorded at The Singing Serpent, also in San Diego.

Like the single, "Matterbloomlight," American Bardo is an ode to the novel Lincoln in the Bardo by George Saunders.[21] American Bardo includes "Matterbloomlight (Revisited)[22]," which is a more produced version of the 2018 single.

Anders and O'Bitz released their EP This Mortal Farce in October, 2020. These four songs were part of the American Bardo project but were slightly different thematically: all the American Bardo songs were about specific characters, whereas these four songs were more general.
