Early life and education
Eunique Jones Gibson was born in Washington, DC and grew up in Maryland.[8] She majored in communications at the Bowie State University.[9] After graduation, Gibson accepted a position in online advertising with Microsoft in New York City.[8][10][11]
Career
In February 2012, Gibson created the photo awareness campaign "I AM Trayvon Martin" after the death of Trayvon Martin.[1][5][12] The campaign was aimed to highlight the need for change.[12]
In 2013, Gibson launched the Because of Them, We Can™ campaign in the Black History Month.[1][4][5][13][14] The campaign used photos of children replicating African American icons.[1][4][5][15][16][17] The campaign went viral and Eunique had to leave her job to focus on the campaign movement.[1][4][15][18] Due to her work, she received a post to the Arts Advisory Board under the White House Initiative On Educational Excellence for African Americans.[9][19]
In 2014, Gibson was honored as a White House Champion of Change for her work with the Because of Them, We Can™ campaign.[9][20] She was also named a Webby Award honoree.[8] In September 2014, Eunique introduced a new project "Por Ellos, Sí Podemos" with the start of National Hispanic Heritage Month.[21]
In January 2015, she was recognized with a 40 Under 40 Award from the Prince George's County Social Innovation Fund.[8][9]
