Ewald Weibel

Ewald R. Weibel HonFRMS (5 March 1929 – 19 February 2019) was a Swiss biologist and former director of the Institute of Anatomy at the University of Bern. He was one of the first scientists to describe the endothelial organelles Weibel–Palade bodies, which are named after him and his Romanian American colleague George Emil Palade.[1]

Weibel was awarded the Marcel Benoist Prize in 1974.[2] In 1981, Weibel became a foreign member of the United States National Academy of Sciences.[3] In 2000, Weibel was elected as a foreign honorary member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.[4]
