Fair Grounds Stakes
The Fair Grounds Stakes is a Grade III American Thoroughbred horse race for four-year-olds and older. It is run over a distance of about 1 1⁄8 miles (9 furlongs) on the turf at the Fair Grounds Race Course in New Orleans, Louisiana. Originally a handicap, it is now run under allowance weight conditions. It currently offers a purse of $150,000.

Run in mid-February, the race is part of Louisiana Derby Preview Day at the New Orleans racetrack.[2]
History
The 2006 renewal was run at a distance of 1 1⁄16 miles. Otherwise, the race is run at a distance of about 1 1⁄8 miles – the exact distance depends on the placement of the temporary rail.[1][3]
Mystery Giver won the race three times, in 2002 through 2004.[4] Yukon Gold won three runnings in 1993 through 1995 when the race was known as the Fair Grounds Budweiser Breeders' Cup Handicap.[5] The race earned Grade III status in 2006.[1]
