Founding

Richard Proudfit, a Minneapolis business man and philanthropist, founded the organization after visiting Honduras after a hurricane. Proudfit witnessed starving children dying all around him and was moved to start Feed My Starving Children in 1987. Proudfit risked his life in war zones around the world to feed starving children. Proudfit died November 13th, 2018. Together with his second foundation Kids Against Hunger, the two organizations feed over 1 billion children annually. Proudfit received the Jefferson Award for Public Service in 2012 joining the ranks of Bill Gates and Paul Newman.[2]

The organization recruits volunteers including school children to assist in packing. They also employ paid staff to supervise the operations.[3]
