Flag of East Turkestan

The flag of East Turkestan (Uighur: شەرقىي تۈركىستان بايرىقى / Sherqiy Türkistan bayrağı / Шерқий Түркистан Байрағы), often referred to as the East Turkestan flag, Uyghuristan flag and also known as Kökbayraq / Көкбайрақ ("Sky flag" or "Blue flag"), was the national flag of the First East Turkestan Republic. It substituted the old flag with white crescent (young Waxing Moon) on blue background and Shahada, that was adopted on 12 November 1933, during Declaration of the Turkish Islamic Republic of East Turkestan, when Khoja Niyaz retreated from Aksu from advancing Dungans and came to Kashgar with 1,500 troops to assume the Presidency of East Turkestan Republic on 13 January 1934.[2]

Usage

In modern times it is popularly used as a symbol of the East Turkestan independence movement.[3] It was used by Uyghur activists in protests involving China's re-education camp system in Xinjiang.

The star and the moon on the flag of East Turkestan represents Islam and the blue represents the sky.

Colors

In a RGB colour space, the blue of the East Turkestan flag is composed of 101/183/255 (dec); in hexadecimal colour code #65B7FF. In a CMYK colour space, it is composed of 58% cyan, 19% magenta, 0% yellow and 0% black.[4]
