Naming confusion

When Wolfforth School District was unified with three other rural districts (Carlisle, Hurlwood and Foster) in 1935, they applied for the name "Friendship Independent School District". The application was rejected as the name was already taken by a Houston-area school district; thus, officials opted for the name Frenship.[3]

Curriculum

In January 2007, the Frenship Independent School District and South Plains College jointly created the Frenship Early College High School, which is now known as Frenship Collegiate Prep High School. The Frenship Collegiate Prep (FCP) program allows students to earn 60 hours of college credit or an associate degree while earning their high school diploma. In 2015, FISD created a new partnership with Angelo State University, enabling students to also earn college credit from there.[4]

Frenship Tiger Band

The Frenship High School Marching Band program is the biggest and one of the most known band programs in the entire South Plains, winning a multitude of awards at UIL contests and many other local competitions. The band has achieved the honor of performing at the UIL State Marching Contest in the following years:

  • 1999
  • 2001
  • 2003
  • 2005
  • 2009
  • 2011
  • 2013
  • 2014

In 2017, the band celebrated their first Bands of America appearance in Midland, TX, as well as their 25th consecutive Division I rating at the UIL Region 16 Marching Band Contest.

During the concert band season, the Tiger Band features four concert bands: Honor Band, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, and Freshman Band. These fine ensembles have achieved numerous Division I ratings at the UIL Region 16 Concert and Sight-Reading Contest in the Spring.

The Frenship Band has made numerous trips to places across the United States, such as Dallas, San Antonio, South Padre Island, Branson, Orlando, Denver, and Hawaii. The band plans to make their fifth trip to Hawaii in June 2018.
