Personal

Jongsma was born in Sintjohannesga. She married with Douwe de Jong (4 April 1951) from Sint Nicolaasga.[2] Next to speed skating, Jongsma was from 1970 pharmacy assistant at Swarte in Heerenveen.[3] She also became administrative employee at the VVV. Her husband died on 12 November 2015 in Vledder, aged 64.[2]

Career

As a junior she was trained by Klaas Visser.[3] After finishing second at the 1969 junior allround championships, Jongsma became junior national champion in 1970 and 1972. After her victory in 1970 she got a local ceremony and received a present of the mayor.[3] In 1972 she was a member of Jong Oranje, coaches by Henk Gemser. She was an asthma patient. For the best support, the doctors of the Heideheuvel asthma center, where she was being treated, were involved for tailor-made support.[2] This helped her. She was selected to represent the Netherlands at the World Junior Speed Skating Championships, where she finished second overall.[4] At senior national championships she competed at the 1971 Dutch Allround Championships finishing 12th. At the 1973 Dutch Allround Championships she fell, but still finished 10th overall.[5] Just after beoming a member of the KNSB-Kernploeg team, she had to quit with speed skating due a heart defect in December 1973, due to medical reasons.[6][7][8] In February 1974 she started with speed skating again, after specialists told her after many visits, she could skate again. However she wasn't able to reach her old level.[8] After her skating career, she no longer suffered from asthma.[2]
