Garcinia benthamiana
Garcinia benthamiana (Planch. & Triana) Pipoly, also known as asashi, is a flowering tree in the family Clusiaceae or Guttiferae.[1]

Distribution
Garcinia benthamiana is native to central Brazil, northern Peru, Guyana, Suriname, and French Guiana. It has been introduced to Borneo, Laos, and the Netherlands.[2]
Description
Its leaves are elliptical in shape and its bark is rough and dark red-brown in color, usually covered in a green or white mold. It is a dioecious and evergreen tree.[3]
Taxonomy
It was originally described by botanists Jules Emile Planchon and Jose Jeronimo Triana as Rheedia benthamiana in 1860 and later changed to the genus Garcinia by John J. Pipoly III. It has been known since at least 1840.
