Big Mouth Billy Bass

Gemmy introduced a range of products in its first fifteen years, but its first mainstream success came in 2000 with the introduction of Big Mouth Billy Bass, a sound and motion activated talking fish on a trophy plaque. The first iteration of the animatronic fish featured the popular songs "Don't Worry, Be Happy” by Bobby McFerrin and "Take Me To The River” by Al Green and by 2018 it featured integration with Amazon Alexa.[3]

In media

Gemmy's products appeared in Designing Spaces,[4] The Sopranos[5] and The Walking Dead[6] Its Disney-licensed products were featured in a Christmas decoration roundup.[7]

Sister company

In addition to creating novelty characters and seasonal decor, Gemmy helped found Varidesk, which produces adjustable desks and office furniture, in 2013. In 2017, Varidesk was recognized as EY Entrepreneur Of The Year in the Emerging category for the U.S.[8]
