George Chahal

George Chahal is a municipal politician who currently serves as Councillor of Ward 5 in Calgary, Alberta. He was elected in the 2017 municipal election.[1]

Early life and education

Chahal was born in Calgary, the youngest of three brothers. He attended Stanley Jones Elementary School, Colonel Macleod Junior High School and Crescent Heights High School. He then received a Bachelors of Arts in Economics and a Master of Environmental Design, both at the University of Calgary. He entered the workforce, working at a CIBC branch in the northeast Calgary neighbourhood of Falconridge.

He was married in 2003, and has three daughters.[2]

2007 municipal election

Chahal's first foray into municipal politics was a run for Ward 3 Councillor in the 2007 Calgary municipal election. He lost this race by 33 votes to Jim Stevenson.[3]

2017 municipal election

In the 2017 Calgary municipal election, Chahal once again ran for Councillor, this time in Ward 5. He was victorious, defeating five other candidates.[4] The top three by total votes were Chahal with 6,608 (40.61%), Aryan Sadat, with 3,759 votes (23.10%), and Sarbdeep Baidwans, with 2,332 votes (14.33).[5]
