History

Development

The development of the Gidrán platform by a new Hungarian joint venture was announced on December 21, 2020 in Budapest.[1] According to the press release, the new company was founded by the Hungarian firm HT Division Zrt, a licensee of Nurol Makina and Rheinmetall Hungary Zrt., itself a joint venture of Rheinmetall Defense and the Government of Hungary.

The primary user will be the Hungarian Defence Forces. The first 40 are being built in Turkey as standard Ejder Yalçın 4×4 with ASELSAN's SARP turret[2] featuring SEDA directional gunshot detection system.[3]

An initial batch of 10 of these Turkish-made vehicles were delivered and already entered Hungarian service in 2020.[4][5]

After satisfying local needs Rheinmetall Hungary plans to offer it through Rheinmetall's international channels - the German conglomerate is reportedly considering to discontinue their RMMV Survivor R vehicle and focus on this new joint development instead.

Design

Design will take place in Rheinmetall Hungary's new development and manufacturing center in Zalaegerszeg, the same plant where the Lynx KF41HU tracked and the recently announced 8x8 wheeled infantry fighting vehicles are also being developed.

The first prototypes are expected to enter testing in 2021 and manufacturing will start at a new plant near Kaposvár (the same plant will start manufacturing the new, hybrid and optionally unmanned armored fighting vehicle in 2024, presumed to be a Boxer-derivant 8x8 IFV, the parties also announced the previous week.)
