Formerly called Second Crossing, it was the second place the Canadian Pacific Railway's former Kootenay and Arrowhead Railway crossed the Lardeau River. The 1903 townsite was to be called Uto, but Goldhill was chosen instead. The gold boom over, the town died a few years later, but some settlement still exists in the area.[1][2][3]
