History
Haerfest was founded in 2011 by brothers Tim and Dan Joo. The brand first began with its series of tailored leather backpacks. It came to the brothers’ attention that most backpacks available in the market were either academic or sporty in design. This presented them a unique opportunity as there was a need for a tailored backpack that was not only functional but stylish.[1]
Opening Ceremony recognized the potential behind the idea presented by Haerfest. It placed an order for the first Haerfest collection.[2]
After its initial launch, Haerfest made significant leeway in the fashion world, both at home and abroad. It soon made a name by establishing its signature interpretation of the familiar.[3]
Haerfest steadily grew over the years. From its initial line of tailored backpacks, the company expanded to produce a whole range of leather accessories. They currently produce men’s bags, women’s bags, as well as small leather accessories.[4] At the same time, it also expanded its distribution line, starting with one store in New York the brand is now carried globally. Haerfest bags are now available in major cities including New York, Los Angeles, Portland, Seattle, Chicago, San Francisco, Beijing, Shanghai, Hong Kong, Paris, London, Finland, Sweden, Canada, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Japan, and Seoul.[5]
Signature style
Haerfest is made distinct by its signature ring and stud. This was designed to make the product unique and functional. In most bags, the straps are sewn into the seams of the bags. However, Haerfest’s single strap system breaks new ground by introducing its ring and stud system, enhancing the owner’s freedom of movement.[6]
