Half a Mill

Jasun Wardlaw[1] (January 25, 1973 – October 24, 2003) better known by his stage name Half a Mill, was a Brooklyn-based American rapper.

Career

Jasun was considered an underground rapper in the early 1990s. His mainstream breakthrough came in 1997 when he scored a guest spot on supergroup The Firms debut LP "The Album" on the song Throw Your Guns which featured his Firm connect, frequent collaborator and mentor AZ (Jasun was also featured heavily on AZ's 1995 debut LP). The high-profile foursome The Firm also included Nas, Nature, and Foxy Brown. In spite of eventually selling gold, The Album did not quite meet expectations in terms of copies sold, considering the all-star lineup, the - thusfar - popular mafioso rap concept and production by the likes of Trackmasters, Neptunes, Dr. Dre and their ilk. The group (who also suffered from repeated disses from replaced founding member, QB legend Cormega) was put on hiatus; the three established mcs returned to their solo careers while up-and-comers Nature (who replaced Cormega) and guest Half-A-Mill tended to their newfound fame. From this point onward, Half-A-Mill appeared on a few other songs including the song "thug ones," intended to rake the stage for his debut album.

Personal life

Jasun is the father of Jasun Jabbar Wardlaw Jr., who not only is a rapper who operates as ProtéJay but is also a producer and an actor.[2]

Death

Jasun was shot and killed in the Albany Projects in Brooklyn, New York on October 24, 2003.

Half a Mill is the subject of a full-length documentary Player Hating: A Love Story (2010) by filmmaker Maggie Hadleigh-West.[3]
