Hikmat Mirzayev

Hikmat Izzat oglu Mirzayev (Azerbaijani: Hikmət İzzət oğlu Mirzəyev) is an Azerbaijani military officer, lieutenant general of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, Commander of the Special Forces, participant of the 2016 Nagorno–Karabakh clashes and the 2020 Nagorno-Karabakh war, and the victor of the 2020 battle of Shusha. He had received the title of the Hero of the Patriotic War.

Life and service

Hikmat Izzat oglu Mirzayev was born in the Bilasuvar District of the then Azerbaijani SSR, Soviet Union.[1][2]

On 19 January 2002 by the decree of the Azerbaijani President Heydar Aliyev No. 662 Hikmat Izzat oglu Mirzayev was awarded the rank of Lieutenant colonel.[3] On 17 October 2020 by the decree of the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev Hikmat Izzat oglu Mirzayev was awarded the rank of Lieutenant general[4]

On 29 April 2015, the commander of the Special Forces, Major General Hikmat Mirzayev, took part in the ceremony of presenting battle flags to the newly created military units of the Azerbaijani Special Forces.[5]

He led the Azerbaijani Special Forces during the April 2016 clashes in Nagorno–Karabakh.[6]

Mirzayev is currently a unit commander. On 4 October, the Supreme Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan, and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev congratulated Hasanov, as well as Major General Mais Barkhudarov, and the personnel led by them on the liberation of the city of Jabrayil and nine villages of Jabrayil District.[7] On 8 November, Aliyev congrulated him on liberation of Shusha.[8]

On 10 December 2020, Mirzayev led the servicemen of the Special Forces of the Ministry of Defense marching in the Baku Victory Parade.[9]

Awards
  • On 24 June 2003, Hikmat Mirzayev was awarded the For Heroism Medal by the decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Heydar Aliyev No. 887 for "special merits in protecting the independence and territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan, for the distinction in the performance of his official duties and the tasks assigned to the military unit."[10]
  • On 24 June 2015, Hikmat Mirzayev was awarded the For service to the Fatherland Order.[11][12]
  • On 17 October 2020, Hikmet Mirzayev was awarded the highest military rank of lieutenant general by Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev.[13]
  • On 9 December 2020, Hikmat Mirzayev was awarded Hero of the Patriotic War Medal by the decree of the President Ilham Aliyev.[14]
