Hispaniolan nightjar

The Hispaniola nightjar (Antrostomus ekmani), also known as the Hispaniolan nightjar, is a nightjar species endemic to the Caribbean island of Hispaniola (split between Haiti and the Dominican Republic).

Taxonomy

It is sometimes considered a subspecies of the Greater Antillean nightjar, along with the Cuban nightjar. The International Ornithological Congress (IOC) considers it to be a distinct species,[2] but the Clements and the American Ornithological Society taxonomies retain it as a subspecies.[3][4] However, this opinion is now changing, and A. ekmani is now more widely accepted as its own species.[5]

Distribution and habitat

It is endemic to Hispaniola (Haiti and the Dominican Republic), but is found much more commonly in the latter; it has only one disjunct population in Haiti, on the Tiburon Peninsula/Massif de la Hotte region.
