Life and career

Indu was born into a musical family at Chilkunda village in Mysore, Karnataka. Her father, Vidwan C. A. Nagaraj, is an accomplished vocalist and flutist in South India and her elder sister Lakshmi Nataraj is also a playback singer.[1] She was trained in Carnatic classical music and Sugama Sangeetha music under her father right from the age of 3.

In 2005, Indu along with her sister Lakshmi performed and participated together in the singing reality show Ede Thumbi Haaduvenu hosted and judged by acclaimed singer S. P. Balasubrahmanyam. The sisters together performed at various events and were coined the name "Chilkunda Sisters", named after their hometown.

Indu got her first offer to act in a Television series Minchu directed by T. N. Seetharam. Tapping her singing skills, Seetharam gave her first singing offer in his feature film, Meera Madhava Raghava (2007) which had the music scored by Hamsalekha. Later she sang for many films which had compositions by Gurukiran, Arjun Janya and V. Harikrishna.

In 2012, Indu won the Filmfare Award for Best Female Playback Singer for the song "Pyarge Aagbittaite" from the film Govindaya Namaha.[2] The retro-rock song was a huge hit among the masses and went viral online. The success brought about use of her voice in "Pyar Mei Padipoya" (Telugu version) for the film Potugadu. She would be offered opportunities to sing in more than 20 films as of 2016.
