Jackie Lane (actress)

Jackie Lane (born 10 July 1941)[1] is an English actress known for her role as Dodo Chaplet, a companion of the Doctor, in the long-running BBC science fiction television series Doctor Who. She played the part from February to July 1966 alongside William Hartnell as the Doctor.

Prior to joining Doctor Who, Lane had made occasional appearances in BBC television and radio productions, including Anna Neagle's radio production of Wonderful Things in 1958,[2] with Charlie Drake in the TV production Grandad was a Wrestler in 1959,[3] as a panelist on Juke Box Jury in 1961[4] and in the cinema films Operation Snatch alongside Terry-Thomas, George Sanders and Lionel Jeffries and Two and Two Make Six starring George Chakiris, Janette Scott and Alfred Lynch, both in 1962.[5][6]

After leaving Doctor Who, Lane appeared opposite Ingrid Bergman in The Love Affair: Goodbye Again on BBC1 in 1966[7] and its sequel The Love Affair: The Truth About Women in 1967 alongside Laurence Harvey, Julie Harris, Diane Cilento, Mai Zetterling and Eva Gabor.[8] She subsequently became a theatrical agent, representing Tom Baker, who would play the Fourth Doctor, and Janet Fielding, who would play companion Tegan Jovanka and managed Nicholas Courtney. The agency which she manages is Jackie Lane Ad Voice.

In 2013, the BBC made a 'docudrama' called An Adventure in Space and Time, telling the story of the creation and early days of Doctor Who, as part of the programme's fiftieth anniversary celebrations. Lane appears as a character in the drama, played by actress Sophie Holt.[9]

Jackie Lane made a rare TV appearance in 2013, passing along anniversary greetings in the Doctor Who: The Afterparty, celebrating 50 years of Doctor Who.
