History

The poor Muslims of Moradabad had established the Madrassa at the suggestion of Muhammad Qasim Nanautavi.[1] The Jamia was initially patronized by Rashid Ahmad Gangohi and later on by the scholars like Mahmud Hasan Deobandi, Hussain Ahmed Madani, Syed Fakhruddin Ahmad, Syed Muhammad Miyan Deobandi, Muhammad Zakariya Kandhlawi and As'ad Madani.[2]

Arshad Madani is the current patron of Madrasa Shahi. [2]

Notable alumni

  • Mufti Mahmud (1919–1980), one of the founding members of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam in Pakistan. He served as the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 1972 to 1973.
  • Maulana Nizamuddin Asir Adrawi (1926), contemporary Sunni Hanafi scholar, historian and Urdu author. His notable books include:Maʼās̲ir-i Shaik̲h̲ulislām, Taḥrīk-i āzādī aur Musalmān and Dabistān-i Devband kī ʻilmī k̲h̲idmāt.
  • Saeed Ahmad Akbarabadi — (1908-1985), former Dean of Theology department, Aligarh Muslim University.
  • Muhammad Hifzur Rahman Seoharwi — (1900 - 2 August 1962), an eminent author of Urdu. He fought against British rule for about 25 years (1922-1947) and spent eight years in jail. He was a politician as well, he served as member of Indian Parliament for the Indian National Congress from Amroha (Lok Sabha constituency) from 1952 to 1962. He produced the books like Islam ka iqtesadi Nizam, Akhlaq aur Falsafa-e-Akhlaq and Qasas al-Quran.[5] [6]
  • Qazi Athar Mubarakpuri — (7 May 1916 – 14 July 1996), notable Islamic historian and writer. He produced the books like Khayr al-Qurun Ki Darsgahein, Tadween Siyar-o-Maghazi, Tadhkirah Ulama-e-Mubarakpur and Islami Hind Ki Azmat-e-Rafta. [7]
