Jan-Åke Edvinsson

Jan-Åke Edvinsson (born 13 September 1941) is an International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) executive. He served as the IIHF General Secretary for 21 years before working as a Technical Delegate for the Winter Olympic Games. Edvinsson was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame in 2013 as a builder.

Career

Edvinsson began working with the Swedish Ice Hockey Association in 1972 as their financial manager. He was promoted in 1976 to General Secretary and was eventually recruited by the IIHF in 1985. Edvinsson worked as the IIHF General Secretary for 21 years before retiring. During that time, he helped the IIHF grow from 34 to 64 competing nations and include 29 international tournaments.[1]

After his retirement in 2006, he was inducted as a Life Member of the IIHF and named as the International Sport Federations representative for the Evaluation Commission for the 2014 Winter Olympics.[2] He also continued to work on various IIHF committees, such as the Historical Committee and Strategic Consulting Group,[3] and served as the IIHF Technical Delegate for the 2010 Winter Olympics.[4]

In 2013, Edvinsson was inducted into the IIHF Hall of Fame.[5]
