Branthwaite started his first game for Everton on 20 July 2020 against Sheffield United after signing an extended contract until June 2023, in which he was named man of the match in a 1–0 win for Everton. He remained on the starting teamsheet for Everton's final game of the season, a 1–3 loss at home against AFC Bournemouth.
