Previously, Amtrak used the old Missouri Pacific Railroad station, two blocks east. It moved its services to the Union Hotel in 1984. There is no checked baggage service, and all tickets must be purchased in advance; there is not even a Quik-Trak kiosk.

The station building was closed on October 2, 2019 due to concerns that the exterior masonry was no longer structurally sound. Until a structural engineer can inspect the building, passengers will use an "AmShack" modular trailer.[4] For much of the fall of 2019, passengers had to wait in open-air canopies or across the street at the Lohman Building.[5][6]
