Jefferson Riverport International
Jefferson Riverport International (commonly called Riverport) is a planned industrial community on the Ohio River, home to companies engaged in manufacturing or distribution. It is one of the few inland industrial/port sites in the nation with single-line haul by three railroads: CSX, Norfolk Southern and Paducah & Louisville.[1] It was established in the mid-1970s.[2]
Industrial park
Companies in Riverport are in fields such as plastics molding and fabrication; steel processing; manufacturing liquid filtration systems and specialty pipe; acrylic resin and polymer emulsion production; stamping and assembly for the appliance industry; manufacturing custom fiberglass products for industry; clothing manufacturing; steel stamping and slitting; tool and die manufacturing and repair; design, production and installation of fiber optic cable support systems. A number of companies are also related to distribution or are international.[3]
Foreign trade zone
Foreign Trade Zone #29, with Customs clearance in Louisville, is for manufacturing or distribution firms to develop internationally.[4]
The FTZ encompasses the intermodal port site and the industrial park. The zone includes buildings for manufacturing and warehousing. Breakbulk and containerized shipments are both handled. Companies can use the zone's general purpose zone warehouses or use all or some of their own building. Companies in the park have used over one million square feet of FTZ space.[4]
