John Connaughton (financier)
John Connaughton is an American business executive and co-managing partner of Boston-based firm Bain Capital.[1][2] He also manages Bain Capital’s private equity business.[3][4]
Professional life and education
Connaughton received a B.S. from the University of Virginia and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.[5]
In 1989, he began working at Bain Capital. Prior to joining Bain Capital, he worked at Bain & Company.[5]
In 2002, Connaughton, along with several other Bain Capital partners, joined with a larger group of private equity and finance executives to acquire the Boston Celtics.[6]
In 2006, he was involved in the $28 billion leveraged buyout (LBO) of Clear Channel Communications.[7]
In April 2016, Connaughton became co-managing partner of Bain Capital.[3] Prior to becoming co-managing partner, he ran the firm’s global private equity business, and continued to do so after.[4]
In 2008, he became a director of Quintiles and later became a director of Iqvia in October 2016.[8]
In 2019, Connaughton and his wife donated $5m to the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia to create the Connaughton Alternative Investing Professorship Fund.[9][10] Connaughton joined the board of directors of the University of Virginia’s Investment Management Company in September 2019.[11][12]
Connaughton has also served on the boards of HCA Healthcare,[13] and ProSiebenSat.1 Media.[14]
Personal life
Connaughton joined the Board of Trustees for Berklee College of Music in 2005.[5] He also donated to the development of the Berklee Global Jazz Institute, which opened in 2010.[15]
Connaughton served on the McIntire Foundation Board of Trustees at the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia.[16]
Connaughton was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Roxbury Latin School for boys for a term through 2022.[17]
In 2012, Connaughton lived in Brookline, Massachusetts with his wife Stephanie.[18]
