In 2019, she won the Twin Cities Marathon in Minnesota with a time of 2:31:29.[1] Before her win in Minnesota, she raced the 2017 Chicago Marathon, finishing in 17th place with a time of 2:39:11.[2]
Before starting her running career, she played soccer at University of Southern Indiana, whilst studying for a bachelor's degree in marketing and management. She started running for fitness and ended up becoming an NCAA All-American in cross country and track events of 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters.[3]
Kohnen ran in the 2020 Woman's Olympic Trials Marathon February 29, 2020, in Atlanta, Georgia. She finished 10th with a time of 2:30:43.[4]
