Kaidō Battle 2: Chain Reaction

Kaidō Battle 2: Chain Reaction (known as Kaido Racer in Europe, published by Konami of Europe) is a sequel to Kaidō Battle: Nikko, Haruna, Rokko, Hakone which contains all the tracks and racing styles of that game and then some. The game also support GT Force steering wheel and pedals as a controller. In additional to previously introduced CA (Corner Artist) and SA (Spirit Attack) modes, this sequel also features new gameplay modes such as FL/LF (First and Last / Last and First) battle mode, TAC (Time Attack Collision) or CAT (Corner Ring Artist Target) battle.

Throughout the courses, the player can check the rival's info, sponsor's info, lover's info, change and tune up the car or check the prize. Cars can be bought new or in used cars shop, along with various parts for your car such as engine parts, air cleaner, turbo kit, cooling module, tires, and such. For aesthetics and dress up, things such as car color, wings, and other visual gadgets can be installed. Battle modes include Speed King mode, CA King mode and SP King mode. Additionally, two players can race in Versus battle on a split-screen.

It is best known for not being released in the United States of America. The reason why is unknown.

Gameplay

Story

The year 20XX.

Mountain passes became high-tech circuits, equipped with safety devices. Now recognized among street racers, it became the ultimate stadium for car battles. Another day begins and racers gather at the circuits, all trying to be the best. The roar of the engines echo through the mountains...

Since Koukami defeated Hamagaki, the former Emotional King, new racers appeared and new circuits opened (Akagi, Zao...) and Koukami is now the new Emotional King.

Some Slashers have returned, such as MMC Ooaza and Haruna Guardian, some have moved like Lonely Wanderer, and others have come. The player controls Hiroki Koukami, a wanderer driver. He is able to defeat every rival and challenges every Slashers from Hakone, Haruna, Nikko, Omote Rokko and Irohazaka. After he beats Speed King, Iroha's Uphill's Slasher, he challenges Hamagaki, aka Kaido President, who drives a yellow Pantera GTS (black Acura NSX-R in US Version) and holds the title of "Emotional King". As he defeats him, he takes his title, become the new Emotional King, while Hamagaki lost it and becomes a merely Trickster.

The story is set after Tokyo Xtreme Racer Drift, Tokyo Xtreme Racer Zero and Tokyo Xtreme Racer 3, but before Kaidō Battle: Touge No Densetsu according to the Japanese series timeline.

Reception

In Japan, Famitsu scored Kaidō Battle 2: Chain Reaction a 33/40.[4] It sold 91,785 copies in Japan despite its good score.
