Kalawa Jazmee Records

Kalawa Jazmee Records is an independent record label based in South Africa.[1] The label is reputable as a major contributor to the development of the Kwaito genre of music in South Africa.[2] Kalawa Jazmee Records has been a pioneering independent record label in South Africa for over 25 years of its existence. It continues to instigate prime new dance music trends and contributed to the evolution of kwaito, afro-pop and house music through Dangerous Combination Crew trading as Kalawa Jazzmee Records.

Since its establishment, Kalawa Jazmee Records has created and launched unknown artists into headline acts that tops music charts with record breaking sales one after the other. This puts this record label into contemporary history as a youth music heritage institution like no other.[3]

Kalawa Jazmee Records has been a home to generations of prolific artists and legendary groups like Trompies, Boomshaka, Mafikizolo, B.O.P, Bongomuffin, Professor, Uhuru, Zonke, Dj Zinhle, Black Motion, BigNuz, Busiswa and Vigro Deep among others.

Kalawa Jazmee Records empowered artists like Black Coffee and DJ Tira to kickoff their careers in the music business by establishing their record labels Soulistic Records and Afrotainment respectively through licensing their music when they were still developing as artists.

Kalawa Jazzmee Records was started by its directors namely Oscar Sibonginkosi “Oskido” Mdlongwa, Mandla “Spikiri” Mofokeng, Bruce Tebogo “Dope” Sebitlo, Emmanuel “Mjokes” Matsane, Zynne “Mahoota” Sibika and Don Laka. In year 2001 Oscar Sibonginkosi “Oskido” Mdlongwa, Mandla “Spikiri” Mofokeng, Bruce Tebogo “Dope” Sebitlo, Emmanuel “Mjokes” Matsane and Zynne “Mahoota” Sibika formed Dangerous Combination Crew trading as Kalawa Jazzmee Records while Don Laka formed  Bokone Music.

To date, Dangerous Combination Crew trading as Kalawa Jazmee Records remains a premier hub for talent. This has led to loyal fans of the label to coin a phrase University Of Kalawa Jazmee.

Kalawa Jazmee Records was selected to be the recording partner for the South African series of Idols in 2020[4]
