Karin Van Der Laag
Karin Van Der Laag (born 2 August 1971), is a South African actress and casting director. She is best known for her roles in the popular serials The Story of an African Farm, Cape Town and Hoodlum & Son. She is also casting director as well as a judge, coach and mentor for the National Eistedfod Association, The South African National Community Theatre Association (SANCTA) and Talent Africa.[1]

Personal life
She was born on 2 August 1971 in South Africa. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Drama and English from the University of Cape Town and later obtained a Performer's Diploma in Speech and Drama.[2]
Career
She started her television acting career at the age of 7 where she played a child role in the SABC Christmas production They Came from Afar. In 1998, she played the role 'Maggie Williams' in the popular soap opera Isidingo. The role became very popular, where she continued to play the role for 12 years. In 2011, she won the SAFTA Award For Best Actress in a TV Soap for this role as well. Then, she became the head casting director for the soapie from 2000 to 2010.[1][2]
She has also acted in the television serials: Zero Tolerance, Going Up, Hard Copy, Justice for All, and Sorted. In 2015, she made international debut with the role 'Gail Ferreira' in the television mini-series Cape Town. Then she acted in the serials: The Three Investigators and Wild at Heart. Apart from television, she also joined with several international films: The Story of an African Farm, Les Deux Mondes, Hoodlum and Son, Hey Boy and God is African.[1]
She is the Assistant Casting Director JHB of popular TV serials Dating Game Killers, Forgiven and Skeem Saam.[3]
Apart from acting, she is also a prolific singer and pianist. She won the FNB National Vita award for Best Performance by an Actress in a Comedy role. Later she was nominated for another FNB Vita Award for Most Outstanding Performance in Musical Theater. Meanwhile, she won both the FNB Vita Award and the Fleur du Cap award for Best Actress in a Supporting Role.[2] In 2017 she was appointed as one of the judges on the reality competition The Final Cut aired on SABC3.[1]
