Katikithala Ramaswamy

Katikithala Ramaswamy was the Justice of the Supreme Court of India from 6 June 1989 to 7 December 1997.[1] He was popularly known for one of his landmark Judgements known as Samata Judgement that upheld the rights of tribals on their lands in tribal areas.[2] He retired in 1997 and served as executive chairman of the National Legal Services Authority and as member of the National Human Rights Commission.[3] Justice Ramaswamy was also involved in philanthropic activities, including in the establishment of charitable institutions to extend economic, educational, social and healthcare support for economically marginalised and socially excluded people particularly in the rural areas.
