Kelanoa is a town on the North Coast of Morobe. Kelanoa comes from the name Kionga used by Sio people to call Gitua people. The Gitiabpeople call sio people duaka. Gitua people are descendents of chief Gitu first peson to settle on the coast with his group of women during great migration out of africa and asia. The same way Australian aborigineous ended up in Australia. Other tribesman then joined through intermarriage to Simat Tribe and other tribes in the area. The Gitu clan owns the piece of land between rivers of Sazom Popolei up to Naum and to Wenga Daman-salu-maeto up to Kwapea. The name Gitua was given by Prof Telue's (11th generation) grandfather Tutul Monga (9th gemeration) after their great great ancestor Gitu and his eldest son Tua (source YK Telue). Mongas first cousin Kwase was made the first and last luluai of Gitua even though he is the son of Mongas auntie Sowong. Gitua is a partrilineal society but Kwase was made luluai for fear of black magic as he was known to be a socerer. Gitu 2 in the 3rd or 4th generation then went to siasi and west new britain with his 2nd wife Sei (a woman from sialum.Village). Gitua 2 came from Suaru and is a descendant of Suaru the founder of Suaru Clan/tribe but married to his first wife a Gitua women. Gitu 2 left behind his first wife and twin sons. The island sesei in kelanoa harbour is named after Gitu 2 2nd wife and the island in sialum.harbour sei. There is a tribal fight but Mongas father and his brother inlaw Sowongs husband killed the attackers from nearby tribes. Kelanoa is a town in Huon Peninsula of Morobe. The Imperial Japanese occupied the town during World War II. On 5 January 1944, Australian army units pushing north along the Huon Peninsula in the Huon Peninsula campaign liberated the town.
