Kelly M. McMasters

Kelly M. McMasters, MD, PhD, is an American surgeon and researcher. He is the Ben A. Reid, Sr., MD Professor and Chair of the Hiram C. Polk, Jr., MD Department of Surgery at the University of Louisville School of Medicine. He completed the MD/PhD program at UMDNJ-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Rutgers University prior to General Surgery Residency at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and Surgical Oncology Fellowship at M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. His laboratory research has focused on cancer gene therapy, melanoma biomarkers. He has been funded by the American Cancer Society, the National Institutes of Health, and the Melanoma Research Foundation, among other agencies. He holds two patents for his research inventions. He is the author and Principal Investigator of the Sunbelt Melanoma Trial, a multi-institutional study involving more than 3,500 patients from 79 institutions across North America. He has published over 450 articles in the medical/scientific literature, over 20 book chapters, and one book. In 2019, Dr. McMasters was appointed as a Director of the American Board of Surgery. Dr. McMasters has served as President of the Southern Surgical Association, the Society of Surgical Oncology, the Western Surgical Association, the Society of Surgical Chairs, and the Southeastern Surgical Congress. He is currently Editor-in-Chief of the Annals of Surgical Oncology.
