History

The company was founded in December 2012 by Varun Sheth, Kunal Kapoor and Zaheer Adenwala. Ketto is the first donation-based peer-to-peer crowdfunding platform in India. Ketto stands for Key to Tomorrow, implying the founders’ mission to create a change in society and connect people to access healthcare and share happiness. Ketto’s Vision is “Healthcare for all”.

Ketto is Asia's most trusted[6] crowdfunding platform with a network of over 55 lakh donors who have funded around 2 lakh, online fundraisers. Ketto is responsible for raising over ₹1100 crore[7] in online donations since its debut in 2012.

Business model

Ketto allows users to create their own online fundraising campaign page through which they raise money for charity, personal projects and medical costs. NGOs/charity partners go through a verification process which verifies the authenticity and validity of their submitted documents before account activation.

Similarly, individuals raising funds for personal causes are required to complete a KYC before starting campaigns. The online crowdfunding platform Ketto approves only the ones which have completed their KYC.

Ketto has a badge of assurance called “Ketto Assured”, this confirms the authenticity and credibility of campaigns running on the platform. Transparency is encouraged, and fundraisers can put regular updates on their campaign pages to win the trust of backers and potential funders alike. All funds raised for the beneficiary listed on the campaign page, are transferred within the promised time.

Ketto is the first online crowdfunding platform in India to introduce a “0% platform fee” campaign model.

The paid “PREMIUM” campaign model for Ketto starts at 5 per cent. Also, there is a “PLUS & AMPLIFY” campaign model, for premium features, high-touch support & Ketto assured tag. Ketto is not a charity but a business which helps others to donate and keeps a commission.
