Hailing from Øvre Eiker, he featured for Hokksund's senior team before joining Strømsgodset's junior setup. In June 2008 he made his debut for the senior team in the cup, and the next day he was promoted to the squad with jersey number 51.[1] In 2009 he featured in two Eliteserien games.[2] His specialty was running, with a registered VO2 max of 82 mL/(kg·min).[3] He also represented Norway as a youth international. Never breaking through, however, in 2012 he joined Vestfossen.[2]

Lundebakken was hired as a youth developer in Strømsgodset in 2011, U16 manager in 2014 and head developer succeeding Haakon Lunov in mid-2014.[4] However, Lunov returned, and Bjørn Petter Ingebretsen was later head developer before Kjetil Lundebakken was hired for a second term ahead of the 2019 season.[5]
