Drafted by the Montreal Canadiens of the National Hockey League (NHL) in 2002(9th round, 275th overall), Korneyev has played with Krylya Sovetov Moscow, Ak Bars Kazan and CSKA Moscow in Russia, but has not played in the NHL. He played for the Russian national team at the 2008 IIHF World Championship, 2009 IIHF World Championship, 2010 IIHF World Championship where he won two gold medals and a silver medal with the team.
