Pashtuns of Kotli Kalan

The people who live in Kotli Kalan are all Pashtuns.

There are many banks in the village. The main language spoken here is Pashto.

The Pashtuns of the neighboring village of Saleh Khana sometimes refer to the village as "Shangre" referring to its inhabitants as a whole regardless of clans as Kotli Kalan and its Bazaar as Kotli Kalan Main Bazaar.

Previously, both villages Saleh Khana and Kotil kalan were one village, however due to a tribal dispute, the two villages separated by becoming two separate villages, in order for the dispute to end.

Tribe and Clans

The village is inhabited by one ethnicity, the Pashtuns; from the Khattak tribe which is then splitted into different clans.

The clans are:

  • Tatar Khel people who originate from far northern Afghanistan regions and as far as Russia
  • Namwar Khel, tribe originate from Khattak areas of Kohat
  • Shahatar Khel people who originate from the Tehra regions of Khyber and from the Khattak and Afridi tribes
  • Dhurran Khel (There was originally a single Dhurrun khel, they later split into two parts. One part is in Saleh Khana and the other in Kotli Kalan)
  • Amir Jan Khel people who originate from string makers are regarded as very strong willed and determined.
