Kunwar (title)

Kunwar, a feudal title originating from the Indian subcontinent meaning "Son of Thakur" where Thakur means "lord".[1] It is a title that belongs to a Rajput, a member of one of the patrilineal clans of western, central, northern India and current eastern Pakistan. The title is also adopted by Thakuri royals of Western Nepal. The surname Kunwar is also widely used as the surname by Bhumihar community, traditionally landlords and in constant touch with the mother earth Brahmin family, in northern India.
