Historical background
From antiquity with homage to the solar deities who passed in Roman times in the cult of Sol Invictus, and to those of the healers Asclepius, Hygia, Telesphorus, Apollo and Dionysus. In addition to the Sun, the pagan tradition links the holiday with its attributes - fire and gold. The holiday coincides with the Zoroastrian Navruz, moreover, during the reign of Emperor Trajan (106 Pautalia acquires urban status), to the west the Roman Empire penetrated more and more with Mithraism.[2]
The day borrows from the Bulgarian folk calendar the celebration of the Forty Martyrs of Sebaste.
