Life

Lee Lyang was a member of the royal family of the Joseon Dynasty, he was the great-great-great-grandson of Prince Hyoryeong.[1] and his older sister Lady Yi married to Sim Kang. Their daughter Queen Insun married to Prince Gyungwon, son of King Jungjong, and later, King Myungjong. In his early years, he studied at Chung Sa-ryong's private academies.

In 1546 he passed to Saengwon and Chinsa exam. Lyang was a special recruitment appointed to bureaucrat. He was passed to Imperial examination in 1552. Lyang worked in a Joseon Dynasty government office inspection department, that being the opinion department.

In 1550, during King Myeongjong's reign, there was tension from Yun Won-hyung's group of supporters, who was trying to take more government power at the time, and Lee Lyang was promoted rapidly under the auspices of King Myeongjongs. Lyang was promoted to second level bureaucrat after only two years time. Lyang was found out to have illegally accumulated wealth, as a result in 1563 he was ousted from Joseon Dynasty's government, but his punishment for his crimes was lessened due to the defense of Yun Won-hyeong.

Lee Lyang later died in exile on 8 March 1583.
