Lefteris Kakiousis

Eleftherios "Lefteris" Kakiousis (Greek: Ελευθέριος "Λευτέρης" Κακιούσης; born 7 June 1968 in Thessaloniki, Greece) is a retired Greek professional basketball player and a professional basketball coach. He played at the point guard and shooting guard positions.

Playing career

Clubs

Kakiousis began his professional club career in 1987, with the Greek club Iraklis. He moved to the Greek club PAOK in 1997. With PAOK, he won the Greek Cup in 1999. He then finished his playing career with the Greek club Makedonikos.

Greek national team

Kakiousis was a member of the senior men's Greek national basketball team. He played at the EuroBasket 1993, the EuroBasket 1995, and the 1996 Summer Olympic Games.[1] He has represented Greece at senior level in 44 games, averaging 3.6 points per game.[2]

Coaching career

Kakiousis began his club coaching career, as the head coach of Makedonikos in 2001. He won the 2002 Greek A2 Basket League championship, with a 24–2 record. In 2002, he joined Iraklis, and lead the club a third-place finish in the Greek Basket League 2003–04 season. In 2005, he became the head coach of AEK Athens, and in 2006, he became the assistant coach of Maroussi. In 2009, he once again took the head coaching job with Iraklis.

He was also an assistant coach for the senior men's Greek national basketball teams that won the gold medal at EuroBasket 2005, and the silver medal at the 2006 FIBA World Championship.
