Lions Eye Bank

Lions Eye Bank is the name of the various eye banks operated by the Lions Save Sight Foundation (LSSF), a not-for-profit foundation within the Lions Clubs International service organisation. The Banks store and prepare donated corneas for transplantation. Corneas may be stored for up to seven days before being given to the ophthalmic surgeon for transplantation.

There are over 60 Lions Eye Banks around the world, supported as ongoing projects by Lions service clubs.[1]

Australia

Western Australia
The Western Australian Lions Eye Bank was established in 1986 and is housed at the Lions Eye Institute in Perth, Western Australia.[2] It is the only facility of its kind in Western Australia, and coordinates the collection, processing and distribution of eye tissue for transplantation. The Bank also maintains a waitlist of patients who require corneal graft operations. About 100 corneas are provided by the Bank for transplant each year. Corneal transplants have a high rate of success, but Western Australia has a shortage of donated human eye tissue.
New South Wales
The Lions NSW Eye Bank provides over 350 grafts to the people of NSW each year.[3]

Indonesia

Lions Eye Bank Jakarta (LEBJ) is a non-profit organization which collaborates with Lions Club and JEC Eye Hospitals and Clinics. Established in November 2017, LEBJ is located at JEC @ Kedoya 3rd floor to ease operational facilitation. LEBJ chose JEC to be part of their collaboration as JEC Eye Hospital and Clinic is the first eye hospital in Indonesia that has already achieved Joint Commission International accreditation and is renowned in eye surgery. With rapid advancements in technology, it is now possible for people who have lost their sight due to corneal abnormality on the eye to regain their vision.  LEBJ assures that surgeries are done with the latest and most advanced technology and techniques available, ensuring high success rates

As of 19th December 2018, LEBJ has facilitated 125 corneal tissues, transplanted by corneal surgeons and a further 145 people are still on the waiting list. This number will keep increasing following the availability of cornea tissues.

We welcomed perspective donors who want to participate in donating cornea through registration offline at our office at JEC @ Kedoya 3rd floor or via online in our website at www.jec.co.id/lebj
