Beyond Words (simplified Chinese: 爱要怎么说) is a Malaysian television drama series produced by Mediacorp Studios Malaysia in 2015. It revolves around the life of a white collar worker, whose plan to retire in his early 50s gets thwarted when a series of family problems crop up: his daughter-in-law gets in trouble with the law, he uses his savings to bail her out of trouble and his younger sister sacrifices her personal savings to tide the family through its financial woes. He has no choice but to return to the workforce and lands a job in the hotel business where he enjoys a career reboot. But things go awry when he ends up falling for his public relations officer colleague.
The series began airing on Mediacorp Channel 8 on 17 March 2016 with 30 episodes.

| 50-year-old Liang Lekun is a kind and honest property manager. With 20 years of experience, he is well-respected for his diligence and down-to-earth nature, though he has few academic qualifications. Lekun's young supervisor, Yuwen, is aggressive and unreasonable at times. He dislikes the more flexible Lekun, who is able to handle the variety of tasks. Yuwen lectures Stanley and Michael for failing to collect maintenance fees from their tenants. When Lekun submits his documents, showing that all his tenants have paid up and have zero complaints, Stanley and Michael show their admiration. They ignore Yuwen, who feels bitter. A tenant, Mr Qiu, wants Lekun to help him avoid paying the penalty for breaking his lease. Lekun contacts the Sabah landlord, Vivian, who asks why the previous and current tenant's stay is less than six months. Lekun finds out from the security guard that the apartment is haunted. Lekun's younger paternal half-sister, Lening, gives up her room to her newly-wed nephew, Yongxi. Lekun thanks her on his son's behalf. Lekun has taken care of Lening since she was young and they have a good relationship with each other. With Lekun, Vivian visits her apartment personally to check it out. Mr Qiu shares the details of his ghost encounter. Lekun then arranges a religious rite. Staying behind after the rite, Lekun experiences strange happenings. Yongxi and Xuanxuan return from their honeymoon. Xuanxuan is terrified when she spots Lening walking in the kitchen in a white nightgown. She wants to move out, and this puts Yongxi in a dilemma. Lening is insistent on studying in the US; this has been her longtime dream. Ten years ago, she had laid the idea aside, so as to lessen her brother's burden. Now, she wants to go ahead, no matter what. Vivian's boyfriend, George, is married. To protect his reputation, he is unwilling to divorce his wife. Vivian understands. She wants to get a job and be independent. George agrees. It turns out that the neighbour, Li, is behind the strange happenings. He covers the apartment and has tried to buy it, but to no avail. | Lekun is downcast after his boss-cum-old friend, Old Wang, advises him to retire. He does not tell his family. Lening's application for MBA studies in the US is successful. Her boyfriend, Zhihui, wants them to get engaged before she leaves, but she feels it is too hasty a move. Xuanxuan keeps urging Yongxi to discuss the issue of moving out with Lekun. Yongxi evades her questions; she has the mistaken impression that Lekun has consented. Stanley and Michael are worried about their future without Lekun. Yuwen is unusually happy, and suggests a farewell party for Lekun. The boss has given instructions that Lekun can leave any time he wants, and his salary will still be paid for the month. Lekun forces a smile at his old friend's arrangement. During dinner, Xuanxuan thanks Lekun for supporting their decision. Everyone is puzzled. Yongxi quickly changes the subject when he realises what she is trying to say. Lekun divulges his retirement plans. Everyone is happy for him. Lost in thought, Lening looks at the necklace Zhihui has given her. Lekun approaches her in concern. She confides that she is hesitant whenever Zhihui is nice to her; she doesn't want to owe him anything. Lekun gives her their father's favourite pen. Lekun is anxious about having no income in retirement. He learns about an investment opportunity in Sabah and takes Peiming along to check it out. In Sabah, the agent, Mr Du, shows them around. Peiming is excited. Lekun confesses to Peiming that he was forced to retire. She assures him she will stay with him through all difficulties. He promises to fulfil her dream of touring the world; they will make Sabah their first stop. Lekun encounters Leo, who is looking for his dream lover. An incident leads them both to have a bad impression of each other. Leo signs up to be part of the tour group of his dream lover, Gu Ye, to get closer to her. He is disappointed Simon is in charge of the group instead. Leo meets Lekun again and apologises for their misunderstanding. | Simon jumps into the sea and saves Lekun. Lekun is alright. Calling it an accident, Leo explains that he had pushed Lekun away because Lekun's hands were dirty. He is willing to compensate him. Lekun is infuriated. Gu Ye mediates. Lekun chances upon Vivian when he is strolling alone. He spots Leo nearby, but she is clearly avoiding Leo. Leo and Vivian are siblings. They lost their parents as children. Leo had let a relative take care of Vivian, while he moved out on his own. Years later, after getting into law school, he became worried about his school fees. Vivian gave him a cheque from George, who agreed to support him through university. Leo tore the cheque in anger. Unable to accept that Vivian is someone's mistress, he cut off ties with her. Leo musters up the courage to approach Gu Ye, and finds out they were secondary schoolmates in Sabah. Simon shows up and behaves intimately with Gu Ye. Leo leaves dejectedly. Lekun decides to invest in Sabah. Little does he know he is walking into a trap. Dickson, Xuanxuan's superior, praises her good performance and rewards her with an expensive gift. He also takes the opportunity to ask to use her personal account for a funds transfer. Xuanxuan obliges unsuspectingly. Uncle Li reveals to Lekun that Yongxi and Xuanxuan are looking for an apartment via his property agency. Lekun is unhappy they are moving out. With Peiming, he confronts Xuanxuan, who replies that they want more freedom. Lening steps in to mediate. She remarks that Lekun can't take care of Yongxi forever. He has to let Yongxi shoulder his familial responsibility. Lekun agrees. Xuanxuan's white crystal ornament from Dickson is broken. She accuses Lening of being responsible. | Lekun and Yongxi talk over a meal. When he was younger, Yongxi had wanted to buy a big house so that everyone could live together. He is guilt-stricken about the turn of events. Lekun respects Xuanxuan's wishes for freedom and understands Yongxi's difficult position. He will help to talk Peiming around, and will set aside money for the down payment for Yongxi's new apartment, after he has settled the Sabah project. Lening's favourite mug is broken and Peiming's clothes are damaged. Lening accuses Xuanxuan of being the culprit. She creates a diversion by feigning nausea and pretending to be pregnant. Everyone is elated. In the room, Xuanxuan admits to Yongxi she had faked pregnancy out of desperation. She decides to keep the act up. Peiming asks about Xuanxuan's checkup. Xuanxuan lies that the doctor has confirmed she is two months' pregnant. Lekun and Peiming are delighted. Lening is accepted into the course in US, and prepares to leave the next month. Dickson uses Xuanxuan's personal account to make a funds transfer for an overseas client. She accepts the commission that he gives her. George recommends Vivian for a job as a PR supervisor at a Sabah hotel. The staff gossip about her relationship with George, which makes her uncomfortable. Xuanxuan picks an apartment in Sengkang, a long distance away from their current residence. Lekun and Peiming hope they will live nearby, so that they each will be able to look after the other. Xuanxuan makes many excuses. Displeased, Lening insists they should go along with Lekun's wishes as he is making the down payment, but Xuanxuan insists she has the right to choose. Lekun receives the contract stating the terms of the Sabah project, and instructs Yongxi to handle the payment. Vivian learns about a land dispute in Sabah and is uneasy about the investment. She asks Leo to find out more on the condominium Lekun has bought. Leo confirms a lawsuit has been filed. On Lekun's birthday, Lening exposes Xuanxuan's fake pregnancy. | Yongxi had neglected to make the payment, but Lekun escapes losses. Lekun thanks Vivian. Lekun demands Yongxi explain Xuanxuan's faked pregnancy. Yongxi begs for forgiveness and confesses that they had wanted to avoid argument, so they lied about the pregnancy. Lekun rebukes them, saying they should be honest as a family and that they have gone too far this time. Lening prepares to go overseas. Lekun and Peiming suggest she should get engaged to Zhihui before she leaves. She shuns the idea. Meanwhile, Lening's good friend Candy, who is going to the same school, gets engaged to her boyfriend. It turns out Xuanxuan and Zhihui were once a couple. They decide to hide their past relationship. A hotel guest finds a suspicious old handphone in the room and wants to make a police report. Vivian appeases the guest and launches an investigation. She discovers that the housekeeping manager had left the phone there intentionally to eavesdrop on the guests' intimate moments. The housekeeping manager is forced to resign. Disgruntled, he spreads vicious rumours about Vivian. Vivian overhears Simon telling Gu Ye that the housekeeping manager had resigned due to Vivian's scheme to make veterans, who are a threat to her, leave. Gu Ye spots Vivian and quickly explains that it was merely a rumour Simon had heard. Simon apologises. Vivian says her conscience is clear. Xuanxuan receives a huge deposit from overseas into her account and asks Dickson if the money is legal. Dickson replies that the money is the capital for an investment in Singapore, so she doesn't have to worry. Lekun approaches Uncle Li for help in looking for an apartment. Xuanxuan makes a huge fuss, which annoys Peiming. Yongxi tries to persuade Xuanxuan to give in, but to no avail. Xuanxuan earns a lot of commission through the funds transfers and becomes arrogant. Peiming is upset when she returns home drunk one night. Xuanxuan lashes out that she is unhappy the entire Liang family dislikes her. | Lening complains to Zhihui about Xuanxuan being unresonable. He remarks that Xuanxuan is still a member of the Liang family and Lening should be more tolerant. Suddenly, Zhihui kneels and pulls out a ring. Lening is taken by surprise. He suggests getting engaged and later, getting married after she graduates. Lening is hesitant, as she will be away for three years. She doubts their relationship can withstand the test of time. He is confident but she wants time to think things over. Yongxi reminds Xuanxuan they need to confirm the apartment purchase with Uncle Li the next day. She replies she no longer wants it. Stumped, Yongxi asserts that they should respect Lekun's wishes as he is paying the down payment. She retorts that she will be getting the money to buy the apartment they like. Dickson goes missing. CPIB officers request Xuanxuan report to the police station to assist in an embezzlement investigation. She finally realises she has been used by Dickson. Suspended by her company, she is devastated. Lening and Leo want to buy the same mug. She is a step quicker, and he gets upset. He wants to pay double the price, but she refuses to let him have it. The shop assistant is caught in between. Lening then realises Leo is Candy's difficult boss. Lekun asks Uncle Li to help find a good lawyer for Vivian. Xuanxuan stays at home. Her attitude changes because she knows she is going to need the Liangs' help. The housekeeping manager still bears a grudge against Vivian for exposing his deeds. | While walking home at night, Vivian realises a man is following her. He attempts to throw some corrosive liquid at her but misses. Simon and Gu Ye arrive in the nick of time to save her. Vivian returns home and finds George waiting worriedly for her. He has instructed the hotel manager, Keith, to arrange for security guards to protect her. She says she got the job through George and doesn't want to depend on him and invite more rumours. Liu mentions to Vivian that Mr Du had probed into her background. Everyone suspects he is behind the corrosive liquid attack. Vivian offers the post of housekeeping manager to Lekun. He declines, citing family needs. Yongxi does not get promoted on account of Xuanxuan's alleged involvement in the embezzlement case. Returning home, he is frustrated to find her watching TV as if nothing is wrong. The police arrest Xuanxuan on embezzlement charges. Yongxi promises to help her. The police had found Dickson, who claimed he was in Japan on business and was unaware Xuanxuan was misappropriating the clients' funds. Lekun and his family look for a lawyer. Candy recommends a lawyer, who turns out to be her boss, Leo. Leo refuses to take on the case. Candy affirms that Leo will try to protect his client's interests and does not prolong cases to make more money. He usually tries to make out-of-court settlements. Lekun and Lening swallow their pride and apologise to Leo, who is indifferent. Lening hits upon an idea and takes out the mug from her bag. She asks if it can change his mind. Although he tries to hide, she can see his longing. Leo advises them to pay back the misappropriated sum of money, to lessen Xuanxuan's charges. Lekun decides to withdraw his savings despite Peiming's objections. However, the money is insufficient for the compensation. Xuanxuan is bailed out. She apologises to Lekun and Peiming sincerely. | The doctors save Xuanxuan. She tells Yongxi she did not attempt suicide. She could not sleep because she kept hearing a voice demanding $1 million from her. The more she dwelled on it, the more sleeping pills she took. She would rather die than to go to jail. Lekun assures Xuanxuan he will help her, and asks Leo to renegotiate with the other party. Leo asserts that he has acted in their best interests, and that the stipulated compensation is reasonable. There is no way to settle the case out of court unless they pay up. Lening overhears the conversation. Unwilling for Lekun to bear the financial burden, she decides to forego her studies and use her savings to help Xuanxuan. Lekun gives a $1 million cheque to Leo. Xuanxuan's case comes to a close, and she invites her family out for a meal. They bump into Dickson. Flying into a rage, Xuanxuan injures him. Dickson presses charges for assault and demands $50,000 as compensation. Yongxi and Xuanxuan do not have the money, so he tells her to apologise to Dickson. She refuses. Lening approaches Leo for help with the assault charges. She offers to replace Candy as his assistant since Candy is going overseas for studies. Leo warns that he has high expectations of his staff and will not hesitate to fire her if she does not meet his expectations. She accepts the terms. Lekun looks for a job. He finds the industry he has experience in no longer needs people his age. Uncle Li advises him to make a career switch. Lekun recalls Vivian offering him a job as a housekeeping manager. He musters up the courage to call and inquire. With her help, he gets the job. Everyone is reluctant to let him go to Sabah. On Lekun's first day of work, he hears rumours about Vivian. | Lening is scolded by Leo on her first day of work. She has to arrive 15 minutes earlier than he does, otherwise she is considered late. Leo's assistant, Rebecca, gives Lening a hand sanitiser and reminds her to rub her hands with it before she touches the door handle, as Leo is obsessed about cleanliness. Lening feels this is going too far but does not say anything. Leo finds fault with what Lening is wearing. Claiming her sloppy dressing will affect the law firm's corporate image, he takes her to buy new clothes. The expenses are deducted from her salary. Leo takes Lening, who is wearing the new clothes, to meet Dickson. Dickson gloats arrogantly that he has both the evidence and the witness to win the assault case. Leo remarks that the judge will question the motive behind the assault. He believes the police will reopen the embezzlement case. Leo adds that he has contacted Dickson's ex-girlfriend, May, who has disclosed Dickson's previous scams. Leo is confident he can persuade May to testify against Dickson. Dickson starts to panic. Leo advises him to withdraw all the charges against Xuanxuan. Lening's perception of Leo changes. Zhihui earns some money on the stock market. Xuanxuan is tempted to try her luck. Yongxi comes up with excuses to reject her. Mr Sun is unhappy that the room he used to stay in with his wife every year is not available. Lekun proceeds to let them have the room. Lekun is surprised to find out Vivian and George are lovers. Mrs Hu asks Leo to demand a large alimony from her husband. However, she does not want custody of her two children. Riled up, Leo refuses to take on her case. Leo is so agitated that his asthma acts up. Concerned, Lening takes him home. Hannah, his old helper, tells her how Leo had struggled to survive when he was young. Lening sympathies with him. Vivian admits to Lekun that she got the job through George. | Mrs Sun has dementia. Mr Sun wants to relive past memories before she completely forgets their past. Mrs Sun is playing a song on the piano in the lobby. Mr Sun cannot believe she still remembers the song. Mrs Sun says she will never forget the song; it was one he sang when he proposed to her. Hannah asks Leo to take a packed breakfast for Lening. It's to thank her for accompanying him home the other day. He retorts that it's one of her duties as his assistant. Hannah points out that Lening is concerned about him. Leo passes the food to Lening. She, too, has brought him breakfast, and says she has bought too much. They are each surprised by the other's action. While their parents are in the midst of a heated quarrel, the Hu children run away from home and seek refuge at Leo's law firm. Mr and Mrs Hu turn up and start quarrelling again. Leo chides them for blaming each other. The children do not want to go home. Lening suggests they stay at Leo's place. He is not happy about this, and asks her to stay the night to look after them. Zhihui is upset Lening is staying over at her boss' place. The next morning, he demands an explanation. She insists she needs her own space and doesn't have to report every detail to him. Zhihui asks Xuanxuan if she regrets aborting their baby. She quickly brushes him off, reminding him that she has never told Yongxi about their past. Hand-in-hand, George and his wife walk by. Vivian doesn't know how to react to this unexpected encounter. George remains calm. Buoyed by the profits from her stock market purchases, Xuanxuan wants to increase her stake. Yongxi is apprehensive and reluctant. She manipulates Peiming's sympathy to get a loan. Lekun and the rest create an unforgettable moment for Mr and Mrs Sun. Vivian feels sentimental. | Grateful to Vivian and Lekun, Mr Sun commends them to the general manager. A rich tourist named Sheila keeps flirting with Simon. He avoids her. She insists they had met the month before, and asks why he pretends not to know her. Sheila does not want to go to the next tourist spot. She demands Simon take her back to the hotel and keep her company. Issuing him a threat, she warns that he will regret not complying. In the hotel room, Sheila ties to seduce Simon but he turns her down, saying he has a girlfriend. She retorts that she has inherited a vast fortune from her parents and a lot of men want to be with her but she has chosen him. Simon apologises for the misunderstanding and leaves. Lekun asks about the lipstick mark on Simon's neck. He promises to keep it a secret but tells Simon to handle his relationship carefully. Sheila is infuriated to see Simon behaving intimately with Gu Ye at the gift shop. She warns him that she has a video of their intimate moments and insists he should leave Gu Ye. Simon confides in Lekun but does not reveal he had a one-night stand with Sheila. After some soul-searching, Lening finds she does not love Zhihui, and breaks up with him. He refuses to accept this, and insists on marrying her. Zhihui shares his frustration with Xuanxuan. She shows her appreciation for his help in her profit-taking by kissing him. A strange feeling arises within him. Vivian feigns illness to avoid meeting George's wife. Lekun advises her to face up to her problem. She is unsure how to do so. Vivian receives a package of threats. Suspecting Mr Du, she makes a police report. George wants to send someone to protect her but she turns him down, assuring him that Lekun will help her. | Simon panics when he cannot locate Gu Ye. At this moment, she returns with Sheila, who is crying. Sheila lies that her boyfriend has sent an intimate video and is blackmailing her. Gu Ye insists Simon should find out more about the guy and blacklist him. Simon begs Sheila to let him off and find a better man. He will own up to Gu Ye. Reminding him how passionate he was, she scorns that no one will believe he was framed. A mystery person sends a package to Vivian. Lekun suspects it is a bomb and quickly disperses the people in the lobby. It turns out to be a false alarm, and he is reprimanded by the general manager. After the bomb scare, George persuades Vivian to go on leave. She points out that she can't hide forever. He asserts that she doesn't need to work at all. George stays the night. Vivian realises her feelings for him have changed. Peiming reads the news reports on the bomb and advises Lekun to resign. Lekun replies that it's difficult to find an ideal job in Singapore. Mrs Jiang wants to divorce her husband, who is having an affair. She demands half his assets. Mr Jiang refuses, and behaves even more intimately with his lover. Outraged, Leo terminates the negotiations. Hannah damages the orchid specimen that Leo values. Incensed, he goes to the garbage centre to try to retrieve it. Hannah is worried, and asks Lening for help. After a night's search, they still are unable to find the specimen. Lening comments that the person who gave Leo the specimen must be very important to him. Xuanxuan loses money on her investments. She pours out her woes to Zhihui. Returning home, Yongxi berates her and slaps her. Xuanxuan leaves home and forces Zhihui to take her in. Mr Du checks into the hotel. Lekun is worried he has an indecent motive. | Simon receives a text message saying Gu Ye is in trouble. He rushes to the sauna room and saves her. She explains that she was giddy and had fainted after Sheila went to get water for her. Simon accuses Sheila of causing the incident but she denies it. She had texted him to play a trick on him. She didn't know he was so anxious about his girlfriend. Simon confesses to Lekun and Vivian that he and Sheila had a one-night-stand and she has their romp on video. They advise him to be honest with Gu Ye so that she can be on her guard against Sheila. Simon hesitates; he cannot imagine Gu Ye's reaction to the video. Yongxi regrets slapping Xuanxuan and apologises to his family for what happened. Peiming advises him to be tolerant of her shortcomings. He promises to get her back. To Lening's frustration, Zhihui pesters him incessantly. Xuanxuan and Zhiming drink at a pub and confide in each other. They recall anecdotes when they dated. In a drunken stupor, they spend the night together. The next day, Xuanxuan is remorseful. Mrs Jiang discusses with Leo the prospect of terminating the life support that is keeping her husband alive. Mr Jiang was severely injured in an accident. She is only concerned about inheriting his assets. His mistress, Mimi, begs her to let him live but is humiliated. Mimi relates how Mr Jiang had helped to pay the medical bills for her mother. They started dating; no one had ever loved her as much as he did. The confession stirs Leo's emotions. He accepts Lening's advice to patch up with Vivian. Mr Du finds fault with Vivian but she endures it. Simon informs Sheila he will go to Kuala Lumpur with her. He lies to Gu Ye that he is going there to discuss a business deal. Xuanxuan encounters Peiming at the hotel and is persuaded to return home. She is filled with even more remorse when Yongxi and family forgive her. | Gu Ye's hands are tied up. She struggles to free herself but to no avail. Sheila pushes her into the sea. Fortunately, Leo saves her. Sheila escapes. Lekun, Vivian and Simon rush to the hospital. Lekun realises Vivian and Leo are siblings. The doctor is unable to say when Gu Ye will regain consciousness. Simon blames himself. Vivian remembers Leo had told her he saved a girl from drowning in the past. He admits awkwardly that it was Gu Ye. He had even travelled to Sabah to look for her. Peiming becomes a cleaner through Uncle Cai's recommendation. She is embarrassed to meet Lekun's ex-colleagues on her first day of work. Xuanxuan turns over a new leaf and begins to actively look for a job. Zhihui visits her and reminds her about their one-night-stand. She asserts that she has forgotten about it and pleads with him not to bring it up again. Zhihui gets close to Yongxi. Infuriated, Xuanxuan starts a heated argument. He suggests they meet every weekend to spend a night together. It does not matter if Xuanxuan did not divorce Zhihui. Xuanxuan feels humiliated and rebukes Zhihui. Lening sees them arguing and questions their relationship. Xuanxuan dodges her questions. Leo and Vivian reconcile. She arranges for him to meet Lekun, and they clear their misunderstanding too. Later on, he had saved her from drowning. At the hospital, he realised there was a wide gap between their family backgrounds and chose to leave. Vivian encourages Leo to court Gu Ye. However, he is aware she has a boyfriend and only wants her to be happy. Gu Ye regains consciousness but has no recollection of Sheila's words to her. She only has a vague impression of the person who saved her. She wants to thank Leo but he has already returned to Singapore. Lening wants Xuanxuan and Zhihui to explain their relationship. Vivian observes that Lekun is a changed person. He used to be optimistic and had no care about other's opinions of him. Now, he is avoiding her. She wonders if George has said something to him. George denies this, as he has promised not to interfere in her work life. George wants to stay the night. Vivian makes the excuse that she has a report to finish. Relieved when he leaves, she takes a stroll in the night market. Vivian chances upon Lekun at the night market. She tells him earnestly that they will be nothing more than colleagues if he is willing to stay. He replies that his decision has nothing to do with her. Hindered by Lixian, the investigation by Leo and Lening makes no progress. Leo hopes the researcher, Dr Wang Junting, has a conscience. Dr Wang admits to Leo that he had signed a confidentiality agreement before leaving the company, so he cannot divulge anything. | Lening is overjoyed to see Lekun back at home. The Liang family chats happily about taking care of the baby together. Xuanxuan listens in on their conversation with a sinking heart. Hesitating, Lening says she is still working on a case. Candy suspects she has given up her dream because she has fallen for Leo. Lening denies this. Dr Wang changes his statements in court. He accuses Leo of attempting to bribe him into making false statements to get back at P&C. Lening is shocked. Outraged, Leo develops an acute asthma attack. Leo's law licence is suspended, and he is devastated. Lening becomes anxious for him. Lekun can tell that Lening cares about Leo. In vain, Lening seeks help for Leo. Elated to see her, his attitude changes instantly. Lening feels hurt. A-liang reports to George on Vivian's activities in Singapore. George orders him to continue to keep watch on her. He also instructs the manager of Peak Property, a Singapore affiliate of his company, to contact Lekun. Lekun tells Peiming he has been invited to an interview with Peak Property. They just launched a condominium and need a veteran to manage it. Along with Xuanxuan, Peiming discusses terms and conditions with Zhihui. | George takes Vivian to the airport. When he speaks of his plan to get her a one-of-a-kind wedding gown, she claims she is not feeling well. She recalls Lekun's account of how George had punished Mr Du, and how concerned he is for her welfare. Xuanxuan is worried about Peiming's health. She reproaches herself and talks to Yongxi about aborting the baby, so as to lighten the family's financial burden. He objects and promises to earn more money. Yongxi calls on Zhihui. He wants to find a way to earn more money. Zhihui proposes investing in sandalwood. Yongxi need only raise $100,000, and the returns are guaranteed. Zhihui advises him not to reveal the plan to anyone yet, especially Xuanxuan. Lixian learns about Lening's resignation and invites her to manage Uncle Cai's cleaning company. It was his father's life's work, and he doesn't want to wind it up. Lening replies that she is going overseas. Lixian is grateful she had put in a good word for him and Uncle Cai was able to let go of his bitterness before he died. News reports on George's wife and Manson, a popular singer, being found dead at sea worry Lekun. He wonders if George is responsible, and warns Vivian to be careful. George is exhausted by reporters chasing him for comments. He tells Vivian he is sad at the news. Although they were divorced, he will still take care of his ex-wife's family. Vivian musters up the courage to tell George that she had met Mr Du in Singapore, and he had talked about how George punished him. George admits doing so on impulse. Lixian's assistant, John, is found dead at home; it looks like he hung himself. Lixian insists it has nothing to do with him. Lening gets upset at his excuses. She reminds him the success of his career has depended largely on Lening, whose persistence helped him pull through his most difficult times. Unable to accept her infidelity, he storms out of the house. She is so upset that she miscarries. Peiming is physically and mentally exhausted. She doesn't seem to be looking forward to her wedding at all. He urges her to reconsider her decision. A-liang follows the blackmailer's instructions and throws a waterproof bag filled with money into the sea. A-ming uses Simon's boat to retrieve the money. This leads A-liang to assume Simon is the blackmailer. A-liang informs George that Simon is the blackmailer. George orders A-liang to recover the money, as well as the evidence, regardless of the method used. He wants a clean job done. Simon is joining another tour agency as a full-time tour guide. He admits he can't let go of Gu Ye. Since they can no longer be friends, he is leaving. She feels guilty. Vivian consoles Gu Ye and tells her there could be a better man waiting for her. Gu Ye knows Leo is a good man and they get along. But she can't tell if she really likes him. Out of the blue, Leo's biological mother, Yanshan, comes looking for him. | Lekun is almost discovered by A-liang's men. Vivian shows up in time to distract them. She asks why Gu Ye and Simon are confined. A-liang requests she leave immediately. A-liang's men beat Simon up. Lekun suddenly appears and claims he has what they are looking for. A-liang sends his men after him. Simon protects Gu Ye and is severely injured. The police arrive just in time to save them. At the hospital, a police officer, Guo, shows Vivian the video clip of George's wife and Manson being pushed into the sea. Although A-liang claims responsibility for the act, Guo points out holes in his story, in the hope that Vivian will be able to provide information that leads to the arrest of the real mastermind. She is hesitant. Simon regains consciousness and is told his spine is irreversibly damaged. He will never be able to snorkel again. Gu Ye is guilt-stricken. Vivian interrogates George about the death of his wife and Manson. George denies instigating A-liang to kill them. She does not believe him and breaks up with him. She warns him that she will go to the police if her friends are met with any danger. Peiming and Lening take Xuanxuan home from the hospital. Yongxi wants a divorce but she refuses to agree. He decides to move out. In court, Lixian forces Yanshan to reveal intimate details of her relationship with Tailong. He wants to prove Tailong would not force himself on anybody. Tailong's subordinate, Teresa, discloses that her boss had Lisa removed as their commercial endorser, and Lisa confronted him. Subsequently, Lisa alleged that she was raped later that night. Simon loses hope and refuses further treatment. Gu Ye expresses her sincere wish that they continue to remain friends, so she can take care of him. He relents. Vivian and Lekun are good working partners; they have great rapport. George tells Vivian he is letting go of his businesses in Sabah and wants her to leave with him. She declines. When Lekun appears, George develops the misconception that they are in a relationship and assures her that he will not look for her again. | Peiming apologises to Zhihui at the police station. Promising to compensate him, she asks him to drop the charges. He replies that the offence is criminal and it is the police who are pressing charges. Xuanxuan is refused bail. Due to the severity of her case, her family is advised to seek legal counsel immediately. Peiming thinks Leo will be able to help, but Lening goes to Lixian instead. Lixian advises that there is little in Xuanxuan's favour. The evidence is against her, and the prosecutor is going to charge her with attempted murder. Xuanxuan regrets her actions tremendously. Lixian cites the seriousness of the case and hints that she should seek the shelter of being "emotionally unstable". Peiming tells Lekun the situation. He is incensed that she did not keep him informed. When he applies for leave to return home, he learns Vivian is also going back to Singapore, to see Yanshan. Yanshan is discharged from the hospital. Her cancer has spread and she has to undergo chemotherapy. Leo is filled with sadness. Yanshan tells him that Tailong had given her a home when she was at her most vulnerable. She cannot be ungrateful to him. Leo and Lixian reach an agreement on Tailong's case. Leo pleads for leniency for Tailong, and Lixian thanks Leo on behalf of his client. Leo is unhappy that Lening's choice was to go to Lixian for legal advice. Lening wants to pay Lixian his legal fee, but he rejects it. Instead, he suggests she help manage his father's cleaning company. Leo and Hannah are glad Vivian has broken up with George. Vivian is told about Yanshan's illness. Tailong is sentenced to imprisonment. Yanshan grieves. Leo takes Vivian to meet Yanshan and they reconcile. Xuanxuan attempts suicide at the detention centre. Lekun ponders over Lixian's comments that Xuanxuan's self-inflicting behaviour is favourable to the case. His own stance is that a good lawyer should be concerned about his client's well-being. He suspects Lixian might have instigated Xuanxuan to harm herself. Hoping Zhihui will help Xuanxuan by lying in court, Yongxi seeks him out. Zhihui refuses. Yongxi flies into a rage and threatens to hurt him if something untoward happens to Xuanxuan. Zhihui is terrified. Lixian confesses his love for Lening. Shocked, she rejects him. She gives him a cheque and promises to pay the rest of the legal fees. Vivian and Lekun watch the news and learn A-liang is dead. Convinced George is behind this, Lekun advises Vivian to remain in Singapore for the time being. Xuanxuan's hearing begins. Mindful of Yongxi's threats, Zhihui admits to provoking her. She explains that she carried a knife around because she has the habit of inflicting wounds on herself. In the incriminating instance, she had lost control and wounded Zhihui. Lixian is satisfied with their statements, but Lening feels uneasy. Leo calls on Gu Ye in Sabah. The wheelchair-bound Simon is staying with her. He has actually recovered, but is afraid Gu Ye will leave him so he pretends he is still injured. Leo advises Simon to be honest with Gu Ye. Yanshan faints at the detention centre. | The cab goes out of control. At a critical moment, Lekun uses his body to shield Vivian. She is deeply touched and a strange feeling emerges. Lekun also senses something has changed between them. Leo helps Gu Ye man her shop to lighten her workload. Vivian is surprised Leo would still stand by Gu Ye. She examines her feelings for Lekun, and when they happen to bump into each other, the moment is awkward. Lixian suggests to Lening that they give themselves a chance to get to know each other better. Lening and Lixian take the injured Hannah home. Hannah is grateful to Lixian. When she inquires about his relationship with Lening, he answers that he hopes to be Lening's boyfriend. Vivian musters up the courage to call on Lekun. Liu informs her that he is in the generator room. Outside the generator room, she meets an unfamiliar technician whom she recognises as George's lackey. She quickly goes inside and finds Lekun locked up, while gas is clearly leaking. He is on the verge of death. Fortunately, Vivian and Liu save him. Vivian confronts George. He is unwilling to let her go and wants to start afresh. He will be leaving Sabah in a few days, and Vivian has to decide if she is going with him. He cautions her to make the correct choice, or regret her decision. Leo confesses his feelings for Gu Ye. She is fond of him too, but cannot leave Simon before he recovers. Just as Leo is about to reveal the truth, Gu Ye catches sight of A-ming. They stop him and after much persuasion, he hands over the evidence of George's criminal activity. Vivian decides to leave with George to prevent more people getting hurt. Lekun shows up. The police have gained sufficient evidence to prosecute George. He hopes Vivian will not have to sacrifice herself for him. Infuriated, George points a gun at Lekun. He wants them to perish together. | |||

| Vivian begs George not to shoot Lekun. She promises to leave with him. Lekun stops them from leaving. He asserts that George is unable to give her happiness. Lekun wants her to flee to safety, but would not let her go with George even if it costs him his life. Recognising that they are protecting each other, George is anguished. He is disappointed his years with Vivian count for nothing, compared to the relationship she has developed with Lekun. Suddenly, the police arrive. George realises he cannot escape. Looking calmly at Vivian, he shoots himself in the head. Vivian grieves. George had been one of the most important men in her life, other than Leo. She had loved him, and owed a debt of gratitude to him for grooming her. However, she recognises that he had chosen to end his life to make her feel guilty, and refuses to succumb. She resolves to move on. Peiming learns about Lekun's injury. She promptly travels to Sabah to take care of him. Simon leaves without a word. From the video he sends her, Gu Ye realises he has regained his mobility. He asks her not to worry and to treasure her relationship with Leo. He wishes them happiness. Gu Ye is unable to find Simon. She discovers her true feelings for him and rejects Leo's love. Justin ignores Lixian's warning and tries to eliminate Teresa. Hannah happens to catch him in the act and photographs it. To save himself, he knocks her down with a car and blames Teresa. Justin begs Lixian for help. Lixian deletes the evidence from Hannah's handphone and throws the handphone into the sea. When Leo returns from Sabah, Hannah is dead. He kneels beside her bed and cries inconsolably. Lening comforts him. Lixian watches them and recognises that he has made a grave mistake. | |||

When Lekun leaves the police station, a familiar voice calls out to him. It turns out to be Vivian. He embraces her so urgently that she is embarrassed. He quickly lets go of her. She is about to make a police report as her handphone and wallet have been stolen. Lening is surprised Hannah had called Leo just before she died. Hannah's handphone was not among the belongings the police had returned. She and Leo return to the accident scene and search the route Hannah had taken, but do not find the phone. Leo is disturbed by the findings. According to police statements, Teresa was drunk when she had driven her car into Hannah. However, Leo and Lening learn from a bartender that Teresa was with a man that night. She was so drunk that she couldn't even have taken the wheel. Gu Ye plans to sell her shop and travel the world. This was her original plan with Simon. Having tendered her resignation, Vivian offers to go with her. Sabah reminds her of George, and she feels the need to get away to fully let go. Leo visits Yanshan after being informed of her medical condition. Lixian had appealed for a lighter sentence for her. Yanshan asserts that she was aware of the consequences before she had bribed Teresa. Leo asks if it was worth breaking the law for a man. Yanshan replies in the affirmative, saying that he is her husband and she loves him. Leo asks Teresa about that night of the accident. She reveals everything to him. It is Vivian's last day of work. Unable to suppress his feelings for her, Lekun hugs her and confesses that he can no longer leave her. She is deeply touched. Peiming witnesses everything. | |||

| Vivian notices Peiming standing behind them. She is crying. Immediately, Vivian lets go of Lekun. Peiming never expected Lekun to betray her, as most of the other men in her life have. He explains that his relationship with Vivian is not as she thinks. She slaps him. Peiming is disheartened and wants to return to Singapore. While trying to make her stay, Lekun is hit by a car. Fortunately, the injury is not serious. Vivian apologises to Peiming and asks her to give Lekun a chance. She does not want to break their family apart. Moreover, she is leaving soon and will never see him again. Teresa admits to Leo that it was Lixian who helped Yanshan to bribe her. Teresa had tried to get more money out of Lixian, but he kept delaying the payment. Teresa is involved in an accident. Leo is convinced it is not a coincidence. Lixian denies having any connection to the case. He tells Lening that Yanshan had acted of her own accord, without his knowledge. He insists that as a lawyer, he would not do anything illegal. Gu Ye has found a buyer for her shop. Just as she is about to sign the papers, Simon shows up and stops her. He asks for forgiveness and confesses that he cannot bear to see her with someone else. Only he can give her happiness. Lekun recovers, and Vivian leaves Sabah. Peiming returns to Singapore. Leo is attacked by Justin. Lixian saves Leo in the nick of time. Justin and Lixian are arrested. In the year that passes, everyone moves on. Gu Ye and Simon reconcile. Lening goes back to work at Leo's office. Lixian is released from prison and takes over his father's cleaning company. He continues to court Lening. Xuanxuan is also out of prison; she starts afresh with Yongxi. Peiming is unwilling to forgive Lekun. However, their 25th wedding anniversary is approaching, and the opportunity to get back together again arises. | |||
