List of Gentlemen Ushers

This page is a list of Gentlemen Ushers to the British Royal Household from the Restoration up to the present day. Gentlemen Ushers originally formed three classes: Gentlemen Ushers of the Privy Chamber, Gentlemen Ushers Daily Waiters, and Gentlemen Ushers Quarterly Waiters. The number of ordinary ushers of these classes were fixed at four, four, and eight, respectively, but ushers "in extraordinary" were sometimes appointed. After 1901, these distinctions between the Gentlemen Ushers were abolished, except between the ordinary and extraordinary ushers (and two "honorary" ushers in the early 20th century). There are currently ten Gentleman Ushers with three representing the Royal Navy, four representing the Army and three representing the Royal Air Force.
