List of House of Fortune episodes
Mediacorp Channel 8's television series House of Fortune is a Chinese New Year series produced by Mediacorp Singapore in 2015. The series revolves around a creative director and his wife, who are beset by financial trouble and move in with an elderly relative, with their eye on his bungalow. With the same goal in mind, his sister and her failed songwriter husband move in too and vie for control of the house.
The show began airing on Mediacorp Channel 8 in Singapore from 19 January 2016 with 20 episodes.

| Qian Renjie (Thomas Ong) and his sister, Meiling (Kym Ng), dream about a witch and the God of Fortune. Renjie’s wife, Luo Shuping (Tong Bing Yu), is tickled when he relates his dream. She is pleased she has upgraded her home from a HDB flat to a condominium unit. Meiling likes to take pictures and post them online. Her husband, Wu Guolun (Yao Wenlong), who is a taxi driver, loves to daydream about a career in music. He suspects she is having an affair with Kenny, an air steward, but later realises she has merely asked him to buy designer bags for her. Meiling is unhappy Shuping has bought a condo unit before she has. Guolun dreams of setting up a music company with Lawrence and makes plans to borrow money from Renjie. Meiling reminds him not to have designs on their home. Gao Lidi is at the beauty salon where Shuping works when she overhears Shuping talking about Renjie’s new idea for a sales pitch. When she joins Renjie’s company as a consultant, she uses his idea as her own and clinches a deal. Renjie’s daughter, Ningning (Bonnie Loo), does not get a place in the local law faculty and hopes to go overseas. Apprehensive because of the high cost, Renjie turns down Guolun’s request for a loan. Shuping and Meiling pit their children against each other. Shuping is peeved when Meiling buys her a television set via an installment plan and only makes the first payment. Renjie is worried about his job. He remembers that in the past, Lidi was forced to leave after being promoted to creative director. Bobby goes around the landed property estate to collect old goods and is spooked by an old photograph of Qian Laoshi (Zhu Houren) and his late wife. | |||

| Meiling reads an article on Laoshi living alone in a big house since his wife’s death. Laoshi is her uncle. They lost contact after he and her father quarrelled years ago. Kenny runs off with the money Meiling has given him to buy designer bags, and she is landed in debt. Guolun suggests she ask Laoshi for a loan to resolve the crisis. Guolun and his family arrive at Laoshi’s house. Xiulian (Xiang Yun)’s ghost-like appearance spooks them. In turn, she reminds Laoshi to lock the door, so that strangers will not enter. Shuping offends a customer at the salon. She is then told to attract customers at the mall. She tries to fleece Simin (Sora Ma) and realises Simin is a new employee at the salon. Simin is sent to distribute fliers and is grateful when Renjie saves her from a lecher. Shuping drags Renjie to meet the Member of Parliament. Her plan is to get help for Ningning’s university application. To her annoyance, Meiling is there. After an argument, Shuping goes for a massage. While waiting for her, Renjie meets Simin. Guolun nabs Kenny, but ends up with injuries. He uses this incident to convince Meiling to let him mortgage the house to set up a music company. Ningning is accepted by a foreign university. She nags Renjie to send her abroad. Assuming a brainstorming session, Renjie has no choice but to join Lidi on a yacht. He falls into Lidi’s trap and is pushed into the water. | |||

| Xixi (Ya Hui) is envious that Ningning has convinced Renjie to send her abroad. Ningning hands her $1000 to pay for the television set, but Xixi uses the money on herself. On a bus, Xixi mistakes Laoshi for a pervert and tells him off. Guolun stops driving his taxi. Hoping to get inspiration to compose music, he stays in bed all day. Meiling cannot pay her credit card bills, and many pieces of furniture and appliances are repossessed by her creditors. Desperate, she and Guolun decide to call on Laoshi. When they learn Laoshi owes the hospital money and cannot pay, they run off. Simin dirties a customer’s clothes and has to send it for dry-cleaning. Already late for an audition at the television station, she sprains her ankle. Catching sight of her idol, Ruixuan, she offers to be her substitute. Bobby has a good impression of Simin and promises to recommend part-time acting jobs to her. Renjie seals a deal after amending Lidi’s idea. He complains to his boss, Henry, about Lidi and happily assumes Henry is on his side. Laoshi lashes out at Renjie for not taking his daughter in hand and causing his reputation to be ruined by the bus incident. Lawrence tells Guolun he will find another business partner if the latter cannot come up with the money. Guolun convinces Meiling to sell the house, so that they can settle their debts, set up a music company, as well as help Laoshi pay his hospital bills. | Guolun tells his family that as long as they put up with Laoshi, they will fulfill their dreams someday. The four of them turn up at Laoshi’s house. Xixi realises her granduncle is the pervert she had met on the bus with Ningning. She is forced to apologise to Laoshi. Laoshi accepts Meiling’s offer to pay his medical bills, but refuses to let them move in with him. Meiling does not give up. She and the children do the chores for Laoshi, while Guolun ferries Laoshi around. Laoshi knows Meiling and her family are after his money. He decides to play along and let this family keep him company during his remaining days. Simin is grateful when Renjie picks her to appear in his new ad. Lidi objects. Henry decides to let Renjie and Lidi pit their ideas against each other. Meiling moves into Laoshi’s house with her family and is taken aback by Laoshi’s 123 house rules. She is again freaked out by Xiulian, who turns out to be a volunteer who is taking care of Laoshi. Guolun discovers that the strange laughter he heard is actually from old videos Laoshi took with his wife. Meiling and the others are forced to do morning exercise with Laoshi. Xixi tries to shake Laoshi off. Laoshi lags behind and collapses. | |||

| Feeling bad that they had caused Laoshi to slip and fall, Guolun and his son, Jiaming (Aden Tan), take turns to carry him home. Laoshi is happy his life has become less boring with Meiling and her family around. While peddling her clothes at a flea market, Xixi meets Zhengyu (Shane Pow) and Andy. She runs after them, when they accidentally take away one bag of her clothes. She witnesses a fight between Zhengyu and a group of gangsters and saves him. She also retrieves her bag of old clothes. Meiling is pleased she has become the lady boss of a music studio. She goes to the beauty salon and makes Shuping serve her. Distracted after losing the commercial deal, Simin uses the wrong mask on Meiling. Meiling breaks out in a rash and lashes out at Shuping. Simin is fired after Meiling demands compensation. Renjie’s idea is picked by Henry, who then asks Lidi to sell the concept to the client. Feeling the injustice keenly, Renjie drinks while confiding in Jason. Lidi calls and orders Renjie to make amendments before the morning. The next day, data in the computer is found to have been deleted, and Lidi does poorly in the sales pitch. Jason betrays Renjie’s confidence, and Henry believes the accusation that Renjie had tampered with the data. Renjie resigns. Renjie returns home, but does not dare tell Shuping and Ningning that he has lost his job. Guolun and his family hide in their room to eat supper when they do not buy Laoshi a portion of food. Guolun is stunned to find Xiulian having a bath in Laoshi’s bathroom. | |||

| Guolun suspects Xiulian is having an affair with Laoshi. Infuriated, Xiulian yells that Laoshi had vomited on her and she was washing herself down after cleaning him up. When Laoshi wakes up and, in a daze, calls Xiulian his wife, Meiling becomes convinced that they share an intimate relationship. Guolun and Meiling are worried Xiulian will take all of Laoshi’s inheritance if she is having an affair with him. Laoshi senses their train of thought and plays along. Guolun urges Meiling to be nicer to Laoshi and take over Xiulian’s role of caregiver. Renjie spends time at the park, where Laoshi is playing chess with his friends. Laoshi’s reaction during the game reminds Renjie of his late father. Laoshi invites him to play too, and offers words of encouragement. Renjie returns home to tell his wife and daughter that he has quit his job and will become a copywriter in another company. Ningning is incensed that she cannot go overseas for studies. Xixi asks Ningning to be her blog shop’s model. While being photographed, Ningning leaves her branded handbag on the restaurant table. Miki, a waitress, tries to steal the bag and is caught by Zhengyu. Miki pushes the bag to Zhengyu and runs off, and Ningning and Xixi assume he is the thief. Zhengyu takes the rap, but warns Miki he will no longer be her counsellor if she refuses to mend her ways. Laoshi flares up when Meiling changes the lock to stop Xiulian from coming into the house. Guolun is put in a fix when Lawrence runs off with his money. Xiulian develops the mistaken idea that Guolun and Meiling want to kill Laoshi for his money. She tells them to give up their schemes and claims Laoshi has bequeathed the house to her. | |||

| Renjie starts a new job. The creative director, Manfred, is a young man who is weak in Chinese. He uses Renjie as a translator and refuses to accept his ideas. Meiling goes to the beauty salon and brags that she is now living on landed property. Puzzled, Shuping gets the whole story from Xixi. She suspects Meiling is after Laoshi’s inheritance. Xixi and Ningning apply for a modeling job and are asked by the agency’s boss, Calvin, to be prostitutes. Fuming, they mistakenly assume Calvin has an accomplice in Zhengyu. Xixi attacks Zhengyu when she notices him dragging Miki away. The truth comes to light, and she is embarrassed. Laoshi learns about Guolun and Meiling’s debts and tells them to settle the matter or move out of his house. They resort to stealing Laoshi’s antiques, only to find they are copies. They have no choice but to sell them to Bobby. Laoshi is upset, as one of the urns contains his late wife’s ashes. Guolun had mistaken the ashes for dust and dumped it. Worried when Laoshi refuses to eat or drink, Guolun and Meiling call on Bobby to get the urn back. Renjie changes the ad while translating Manfred’s work and earns praise from the client. Scolded by Manfred, however, he resigns. Renjie meets Laoshi and learns about the urn. His attempt to help find the urn touches Laoshi’s heart. | Guolun fills the urn with limestone powder and returns it to Laoshi, who cheers up. Though Laoshi knows the ashes are gone, he is moved by the pair’s efforts to pacify him. Shuping visits Laoshi with the urn Renjie has bought and apologises for calling Laoshi an old pervert previously, with regard to Ningning’s encounter on the bus. She argues with Meiling when the latter asserts that she will need her permission to visit Laoshi in future. Shuping calls on Renjie in the new office and learns he has left. She quarrels with him when she discovers they may soon be homeless, as he can hardly even make the payments on the car loan. Simin is nearly arrested for being an illegal worker. Bobby goes to her rescue and offers to recommend a job. Shuping convinces Laoshi to let her and her family move into the villa. She then rents out the condo unit and asks Renjie and Ningning to pack their belongings. Renjie has no choice but to agree. Guolun and Meiling pretend to welcome Renjie and his family into the house. Shuping is freaked out by the sound of laughter from the video. The next morning, Laoshi wakes everybody up with his erhu playing. Meiling argues with Shuping over the chores and blurts out that Laoshi is leaving the house to Xiulian. The two women decide to cast aside their feuds and work together to deal with Xiulian. | |||

| Meiling and Shuping sneak into Laoshi’s room to steal his will, and have to hide when he returns with Xiulian. To their dismay, the envelope they find contains only the title deed. Laoshi sympathises with Renjie when Meiling snubs her brother, despite his attempt to strike a conversation. He takes Renjie out to eat wine chicken. The dish tastes lousy and Laoshi decides to cook it himself at home. Renjie discovers Laoshi can cook the same wine chicken dish as his father, as his grandfather had passed down the recipe. He is keen to master the dish. Shuping and Meiling bribe an old man to lie to Laoshi that Xiulian has cheated him of his savings. Renjie discovers their ploy and is disgusted. Xiulian takes Laoshi to the clinic and explains why she had lied that he promised to give her the house. Xiulian discovers her late husband’s watch missing. She looks Zhengyu up at the flea market and is chased away. Xixi learns Xiulian is Zhengyu’s mother and it was she who had caused the death of Zhengyu’s father. Renjie cannot tolerate how Meiling and Shuping are vying with each other to get into Laoshi’s good books. Meiling is peeved when Laoshi chooses to play chess with Renjie. Guolun suggests she learn how to sing Teochew opera to please Laoshi. Unfortunately, in the midst of their efforts, Meiling and Shuping cause Laoshi to sprain his ankle. They then vie to get him a wheelchair. Just when everything is in a mess, Simin turns up and claims she is Laoshi’s niece on his wife’s side. | |||

| Everyone is shocked to learn Simin is Laoshi’s niece from his wife’s side. She asserts that her father has died suddenly. Laoshi lets her stay with him. Laoshi goes near Ningning again to sniff the fragrance on her, as it reminds him of his wife. She happens to use the same brand of shampoo as his late wife did. Observing Laoshi’s aches and pains, Simin rubs his feet with her hometown oil. He reminisces about his late wife, and they chat happily. Shuping and Meiling worry. Laoshi does not miss the snide remarks that Shuping and Meiling pass at Simin. He distributes the “bak kut teh” amongst them and promises to be fair to all. Meiling refuses to go with Renjie to pay her respects to their late father. Shuping wants to sell the apartment to buy over the salon, but Renjie objects. Zhengyu takes Xixi to the handmade soap factory where he is an instructor. She wants to make soap that will remind Laoshi of his wife’s scent. She is moved when she learns Zhengyu keeps his watch alarm ringing because of his late father. Laoshi tells Meiling how her father had scrimped and saved to buy her a present. To Renjie’s surprise, Meiling eventually turns up at the columbarium as well. They meet Lidi in the carpark, and Meiling gets back at Lidi for Renjie. Ningning lies that she has registered at a reputable university overseas. She is moved that Xixi shows more concern for her than her parents do. | Shuping is delighted when she discovers that Renjie has hired the lawyer to manage the sale of their house, so that she can buy over the salon. Simin breaks the frame of a couplet in Laoshi’s room. He relates how a calligrapher had used his and his wife’s names to write the couplet for them when they were on a tour. Simin fumbles and trips when Renjie asks her more about her father. He tries to help her up and ends up spraining his back. She offers him the massage oil but feels awkward about massaging his back for him. Xiulian helps Laoshi with his eye drops, which leads Xixi to jump to the conclusion that they are being intimate. She runs off after putting fragrant wax in Laoshi’s room. Xixi overhears Xiulian talking about poisoning, then sees her adding powder to Laoshi’s drink. She pushes away the drink and tells him that Xiulian wants to poison him. He clarifies the matter and scolds her. Laoshi notices the fragrant wax in his room and is touched by the gesture. Xiulian chats with Xixi and learns Zhengyu had told her that she killed his father. Zhengyu decides to stop being Miki’s counselor when Miki tries to steal Xixi’s wallet. Guolun changes the lyrics of a Filipino song and submits it as his entry for a competition. Simin and Renjie go to Sembawang to get hot spring water for Laoshi. Renjie is puzzled when Simin responds to the name “Hu Simin” when she had claimed earlier that her surname is Yu. | |||

| Simin claims a case of mistaken identity. Laoshi is grateful that she and Renjie went to get hotspring water for him. He makes dumplings for them as a reward. Renjie gets inspiration for an ad for Shuping’s salon, but she wants to use her own ideas. Troubled, he confides in Simin. Zhengyu poses as a gang leader and saves Ningning from being bullied. He then takes her to a trampoline park to relax. Xiulian’s relationship with Zhengyu has only just started to improve when he finds out Andy has reverted to his old habits since borrowing money from Xiulian. He blames her for Andy’s plight. After a talk with Xixi, Zhengyu reflects on his harsh words to Xiulian and decides to buy noodles home for his mother. Unfortunately, Xiulian is out doing volunteer work again. Guolun wins the competition. Meiling shows off in front of Shuping, who reminds her that such fame may not last. Renjie is dejected after translating some lousy ads. Simin cheers him up by making bread for him. After listening to Laoshi’s recounts about his wife, Simin begins to suspect she has fallen for Renjie. Meiling notices perfume scent on Guolun’s clothes and suspects he has been fooling around. Just then, she learns he is suspected of plagiarising a Filipino song. | |||

| Meiling is incensed when Guolun admits he had copied the tune. She is concerned about the loss of face when the news is made public. Meiling takes Laoshi to a miracle healer and goes all out to make sure the person is willing to treat Laoshi. Simin asks to see Bobby and tells him that she no longer wants to carry on with the job, as she feels confused. She does not dare say she has fallen for Renjie and feels guilty for what she is doing. However, she needs the money to pay her father’s medical bills and has no choice but to obey Bobby. Renjie and Meiling get along better after sharing some Foochow fishballs and reminiscing about their childhood. Guolun has to pay compensation for the copyright infringement. He asks Meiling to get Laoshi to mortgage the house to help him. Renjie tries to stop Shuping from expanding her salon business. He attends Mary’s farewell party, where his interest in becoming a private chef is piqued. Xixi bumps into Xiulian at the hospital. Granny Hua accuses Xiulian’s husband, Zhong, of causing the death of her daughter, Meihua. Xiulian tells Xixi that her husband, Zhong, was a volunteer as well. Zhong was badly affected when Meihua killed herself after they gave up on her case. Xiulian went off to save another person from suicide with Zhong’s blessing, but could not make it back in time to bid him farewell. That is the reason Zhengyu hates his mother. Laoshi learns of Guolun’s plight and wants to help him by mortgaging his house. However, he changes his mind when he discovers his wife’s ashes have been thrown away. | |||

| Laoshi tells the others that he has thrown Meiling and her family out for stealing from him and dumping his wife’s ashes. Simin worries when she learns Bobby is involved in the matter. Shuping does not trust Simin and hopes the latter will be thrown out as well. Bobby tells Simin that with one family gone, they will get a bigger share of the house. He refuses to let her withdraw from their plan. Guolun and his family move into a cheap hotel. When he announces that he will file for bankruptcy to get out of the fix, Meiling loses her temper and insists she will find a job. Xiulian is pleased to see Zhengyu wearing the shoes she has bought him. She is hoping to be able to celebrate his birthday with him. Zhengyu stops Xixi from distributing fliers while wearing only a bikini. He expresses his love for her, and they start dating officially. He is disappointed Xiulian does not turn up as promised. Xixi clarifies the misunderstanding and takes him to the nursing home to see Granny Hua. When Granny Hua attacks Xiulian, Zhengyu goes to his mother’s rescue and is injured. Mother and son finally reconcile. Renjie helps Meiling out financially. She learns of his plan to become a private chef and is supportive. Renjie manages to clinch his first job via the Web. Simin helps him out when the hired help does not turn up. Grateful, he buys a wallet for her. Shuping suspects Renjie is having an affair with Simin. Their heated conversation is overheard by Laoshi, who then discovers they have been lying to him from the start. | |||

| Renjie and Shuping apologise to Laoshi. Renjie wants to move out. When Simin tries to reason with him, he says only she should be allowed to stay as the rest of them have broken Laoshi’s heart. He also hints that she is merely like a sister to him. Renjie and Ningning bid Laoshi farewell. Though Shuping still hopes Laoshi will ask them to stay, he does not say anything. Renjie and Shuping argue in the car. When Ningning hears that Shuping, too, has lied to Laoshi, she runs out. Zhengyu consoles Ningning. He informs Xixi and both of them try to persuade Ningning to return home. Ningning then realises they are a couple and is shattered. Zhengyu asks Xiulian to let Xixi and her family move in, but Xiulian is angry that Meiling has been lying to Laoshi. She reluctantly agrees only when Zhengyu reveals Xixi is his girlfriend. Renjie’s customer asks him to cook oyster omelette, but he can’t produce the traditional taste. Meiling suggests he ask Laoshi for advice. Laoshi reminisces about the times he shared with Meiling and Renjie, but refuses to let them move back in. In an attempt to sort his thoughts out, he voices his worries while carrying a video-tape. The tape, which holds a recording of his late wife, breaks, and he panics. Simin has the broken tape when Renjie bumps into her. He transfers the video-recording onto a compact disc, but instructs her not to tell Laoshi it was he who did it. Simin knows Renjie wants to learn how to make oyster omelette. She asks Laoshi to make some for her. Using her phone, she records the whole process and sends it to Renjie. He is grateful. Meiling helps a maid to catch a molester, and is beaten up. Xiulian goes to her aid and they become good friends. Xixi recommends Ningning for a job in her company’s legal department. Ningning is overwhelmed with work on the first day. Simin receives an envelope mailed by the real Simin. It contains wedding photos and an invitation card to her wedding in the Philippines. Renjie drops by and sees it. | |||

| Renjie confronts Simin about her identity. Confessing she is a fake, she explains Bobby’s scheme. Renjie sympathises. Bobby is using Simin because she desperately needs money for her father’s hospital bills. She wishes to confess to Laoshi, but Renjie advises her against it for the time being. He is afraid Laoshi will not be able to take the blow. Renjie puts away his phone hastily to avoid a misunderstanding with Shuping, but she finds Simin’s video eventually. When questioned, he clarifies that Simin is only helping him out of goodwill. Shuping remains suspicious, and he is disappointed his wife does not trust him. Meiling avoids Laoshi but he catches a glimpse of her. Guolun meets with Simon, a music producer. They get into an argument, and Guolun damages Simon’s phone. He tries to escape but they get into a scuffle and break a taxi door. Guolun relies on Meiling to compensate the taxi driver and Simon. Meiling berates Guolun for not finding a proper job and causing trouble. When she slams him for lacking musical talent, they quarrel. Hearing of Renjie’s dismal oyster omelette, Laoshi puts on an act to convey the correct proportions to Simin. She then passes the information to Renjie, and he succeeds in one try. Meiling secretly delivers medicine to Laoshi. While she is at the house, he suffers a minor stroke and she rushes him to the hospital. She is late for work and ordered to wash toilets. Bobby persuades Meiling to sing karaoke with him. Both end up drunk, and he offers to send her home. She falls on him in the car, and Guolun is just in time to witness this. | |||

| Guolun thinks Meiling and Bobby are having an affair. She blames his wild imagination on too much free time. Ningning is jealous of Xixi and Zhengyu’s relationship. To sabotage them, she deliberately steals the watch that Xixi had helped Zhengyu collect. Laoshi is unmoved when Renjie visits him. Simin reveals how Laoshi had relayed the oyster omelette proportions to her, knowing she would pass the information on to him. Renjie is deeply moved that the old man still cares for him. Renjie deduces that Ningning is in love with Zhengyu. He mistakes the stolen watch as her gift to Zhengyu. Xiulian tries to get Guolun and Meiling to reconcile. Their gripes about each other leave her helpless. Xixi buys a replacement for the lost watch and patches up with Zhengyu. Incensed, Ningning invites herself to their picnic date. She deceives the couple, and is left alone with Zhengyu. She pretends to find the missing phone and requests that he treat her to a meal as a reward. She makes a move on him. Zhengyu receives a call informing him that Xixi is in the hospital. At her recount of the circumstances, he suspects Ningning is the mastermind. He confronts Ningning, who confesses but stubbornly justifies herself. In a fit of anger, he hits her and she runs away. Laoshi refuses to be hospitalised. Simin has no choice but to take care of him. He suggests Renjie and Meiling’s families move in with him if she is unable to cope. | |||

| Xiulian informs the siblings of Laoshi’s last wishes to have his family around him, and they agree to move back into his house. Xixi is apprehensive of Ningning, and Shuping protests against Simin. Laoshi insists the families live in their original rooms. Xixi has qualms about sharing a room with Ningning, but Ningning apologises and they patch up. Laoshi assigns the two couples a task each, to help them improve their respective relationships. His plan seems to be effective. To Guolun, he offers a music-related job, which turns out to be a sales position in an instrument shop. Renjie encourages Simin to be independent and find herself a job. He arranges for an audition, and sends her for a makeover to boost her confidence. He also lends her money to buy a dress for the audition. Xixi receives a branded gift from a customer in return for a special discount. Ningning mass-mails an e-mail to their colleagues, claiming Xixi has taken a bribe. To her surprise, their boss praises Xixi; not only has she already returned the gift, but she had discussed the special discount beforehand. Ningning seethes over her failed attempt to sabotage Xixi. Shuping is suspicious when she realises the jacket from Renjie and Simin’s dress were purchased together. | Laoshi collapses when told about Simin’s fake identity and she confesses everything. However, he sympathises with her plight and asks her to stay. She insists on moving out, to prevent further misunderstanding, and promises to visit the old man. Renjie is upset about Shuping’s rash behaviour. In turn, she questions his concern for Simin. When she reveals how she had discovered Simin’s fake identity, her distrust disappoints Renjie and he suggests a divorce. Renjie pays Bobby off to stop harassing Simin. She thanks him and reassures him she is well. She confesses her feelings for him, but says she is aware they can never be together. Guolun is fired. Meiling refuses to speak to him until he finds a new job. Bobby saves her from a drunk and takes her to supper. When she complains about her husband, he comforts her with his glib tongue, harbouring ill intentions. Xixi and Jiaming help Guolun plan a romantic dinner for Meiling. Going on his way, he encounters Lawrence, nabs him, and sends him to the police. Meiling is disappointed when her husband does not show up. She agrees to meet Bobby for drinks and he makes a move on her. She feels guilty after learning why Guolun was held up. Xixi is fired for leaking confidential information to a rival company. She suspects she was set up. Renjie remembers Ningning using Xixi’s e-mail account and questions her. Xixi happens to overhear her confession. | Guolun is shocked to see the nude photo of Meiling. She explains that she was drunk and not aware of what was going on. He accuses her of having an affair with Bobby. Laoshi overhears their quarrel and is stunned to see the nude picture. Laoshi rebukes Ningning for framing Xixi. Ningning retorts that he has no right to lecture her. Flying into a rage, Renjie tears her sleeve by accident, which exposes the self-inflicted scars on her arm. Unable to take the shock, Laoshi faints. Laoshi wakes up in the hospital and turns away all visitors. Well aware of Ningning’s self-inflicted scars, Shuping blames herself for neglecting her. She promises to face the difficulties with Ningning, who is touched. Bobby threatens Meiling with the nude photos and blackmails her for $1 million. Guolun berates Bobby for having an affair with her, but Bobby denies it. Shuping wants to accompany Ningning to the US for psychological treatment. She asks Renjie for a divorce. Meiling tries to cheer Shuping up. They have a heart-to-heart talk and are finally able to let go of their grudges. Xiulian reveals to Renjie, Shuping, Guolun and Meiling that Laoshi knew about their broken marriages and was trying to help them by asking them to move in with him. They feel guilty for letting Laoshi down. Guolun sorts out his thoughts and goes back to his old trade. Rejoicing, Meiling tells him she will report the blackmail to the police. He promises to stand by her, no matter what happens. She is touched and they patch up. On their wedding anniversary, Renjie and Shuping go to the restaurant where they had first date. They remember the past and find they are unable to let go of each other. They hug and reconcile. Time flies. It has been a year since Laoshi died.
