List of Zaildars by Zail

The Zaildar was the officer in charge of a Zail, a revenue and administrative unit in the colonial rural administration of Punjab in British India.[1][2] Each Zail comprised between two and forty villages.

Zails

Sardar Gurcharan Singh Zaildar (Dangarh)

Sardar Gurcharan Singh was a zaildar of 28 village in barnala district.He was also a freedom fighter.Zaildar was a member of praja mandal movement.He went to jail for 9 years before freedom.He use to ride his horse once a week in all 28 village .He was a great friend of Surjit Singh Barnala, Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa and Sewa Singh Thikriwala

Sardar Joginder Singh Batth (Zaildar)

Sardar Joginder Singh was zaildar of 37 villages in shahabad Markanada. He was belongs to Batth caste of Jattsikh. His roots from Village Batth, District-Amritsar and have good acumen of Politics. His ancestors play an vital role in Maharaja Ranjit Singh Army, after sikh Anglo war his ancestors was black list from Punjab. Because his ancestors was honest towards her maharani Jind kaur. So ,they migrate to Ambala District

Harbans Singh Zaildar

Chaudhary Harbans Singh was appointed as Zaildar of 65 villages in Delhi (Shahdra district). He was from village Chilla Saroda, east Delhi. He was honoured by British government many times for his works.

Bidhwan Jaglan Zail

Bidhwan Jaglan Zail (बिधवान जागलान ज़ैल) was headquartered in the Bidhwan (बिधवान) village and ruled by the Jaglan clan. It covered four villages in erstwhile Loharu State in then Hisar district. These villages, Bidhwan, Kalali (कलाली), Mandholi Khurd (मंढोली खुर्द) and Siwach lie in Bhiwani district. The Zail and Zaildar systems were abolished in 1952,[3] and the Jaglan family now continues as Lambardar.

Raja Sajjawal Khan

Raja Sajjawal Kahn was appointed as Zaildar in 1940s after he defeated a famous Hindu Landlord Badri Nath of village [Kotla] Jangian, he was from village [Mehmunpur] Rajgan, Mirpur, Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan. His zail comprised 84 villages of Lower Khari Sharif. He belonged to Panwar Sohlan clan of Rajputs. He was considered to be most influential person having very close relationship with Maharaja and his brother Karan Singh Wazir Wazarat Mirpur. Despite having very good terms with Maharaja, he never accepted any land or Jagir and only owned inherited property. he was famous for his hospitality and sympathetic behaviour with proper people. He usually ride on his horse as it was customary that Landlords used to ride on horses of famous breeds. He was a social person and love to meet his people and listen their problems. He was very good friend of Raja Akbar Khan, a famous freedom fighter. He helped families who migrated from Rajouri and Poonch after partition. He had two elders brother in British Indian Army. Most of his family members served in British Indian Army.

Ali Muhammad Malik

Ali Muhammad Malik was appointed as Zaildar, he was from village Muradabad, Punjab, Pakistan. His zail comprises many towns of Muzaffargarh. It is believed his family were descendant of Turkish prince. He was considered to be most influential person in British government. Despite he owned much land and wealthiest person, he was famous for his simplicity. He usually ride his white horse with few men on his back and love to meet his people and listen their problems. It is also believed that he was hard man and had stricture Islamic rule for his people. It is said, that if his horse was sent alone, people use to get frightened by his horse. British government offered him large land for his works to maintain order but he rejected and instead of that he usually distributed his large land to his poor people.

Chaudhary Bostan Khan Zaildar

Zaildar of Punjab. Chaudhary Bostan Khan Zaildar was appointed as a Zaildar of Punjab based on 84 villages of Rawalpindi & Islamabad Zail. He was the only landlord of that District. His best quality was that He used to listen to the problems of the public in a Diwan on regular basis in his village Kotha Kalan. Later his son Chaudhary Lal Khan contested in local body elections & became Chairman for 4 times non stop & Got title of “Baba-e-Baldiyat” By the Government of Pakistan. He was also the member of district council.

Malik Amir Khan Zaildar

Zaildar of Dholar Talagang. Malik Amir Khan Zaildar was appointed as a Zaildar of Dholar zail based on nine villages of Talagang District Kamalpur. Zaildar Malik Aurangzeb was another notable Zaildar of Talagang Area. He was Malik of Akwal and desendent of Malik Weer Khan.

Sardar Zaildar Nihal Abdullah khan Chatha

Sardar Zaildar Abdullah khan Chatha (of the Chatha Jatt tribe) represented a Zail of 75 villages. He was known to ride on a white horse along with 50 men on horseback behind him as he visited the villages allotted to him and he was famous for taking his men wherever he went. He lived near Gujranwala, Punjab in a small village named Ahmad nagar Chattha in his honour. And he is the zaildar of district Gujranwala. The position extended the influence of the colonial state right into the villages. He used to listen to the problems of the public in a Diwan on regular basis in his village. Zaildar bharat singh of village bass (hisar) Haryana whose son later became member of parliament from Mehendergarh Bhiwani seat in 1962 from then Jana Sangha, later known as BJP.

Chudhary Ahmad Bakhsh Wahla

Zaildars of Amritsar Tehsil Ajnala were a Muslim Wahla jatt family of village Kamalpur. That zail comprised 25 villages. And Chaudhary Ahmad Bakhsh Wahla was the Zaildar. Then his son Chaudhary Farzand Ali Wahla was also Zaildar.

Choudhary Arjanram Sinwer Zaildar

Choudhary Arjan ram Sinwer  zaildar (चौधरी अर्जन राम सिवंर जेलदार)was from Sherpura village (शेरपुरा)  and ruled by the sinwer clan of Jats. [citation needed] It covered four villages in erstwhile Sherpura State in then Hisar district. These villages Narain Khera,Tazia Khera ,   Kushumbhi and Kukarthana in Sirsa district. The Zail and Zaildar systems were abolished in 1952,[1] and the Sinwer family now continues as Lambardar and sarpanch.

Chaudhary Nathu Singh Tewatia

Chaudhary Nathu Singh Tewatia Zaildar of Sihi village was famous in Ballabhgarh. His zail comprised 84 villages. He has been credited for abolishing cow slaughtering from Ballabhgarh. He also served as a Chairman of Gurgaon District Committee. He donated his 6600 bigha of land to peasants in Chaisa village. He settled a colony named Nathu Colony on his land around 100 ft road in Ballabgarh. He fought Ballabhgarh constituent election in 1968, wherein he lost by just a margin of 7500 votes where Indira Gandhi participated in rallies against him
