List of extinct plants of New Zealand
Four plants have been listed as extinct beyond doubt since 1840:[3]
- Lepidium obtusatum
- Logania depressa
- Stellaria elatinoides
- Trilepidea adamsii
List of extinct plants of New Zealand:
- Araucaria haastii - known from fossils of the Cretaceous period, best preserved of several extinct New Zealand Araucaria species
- Banksia novae-zelandiae - known only from fossil records
- Chiloglottis formicifera (ant orchid) - extinct in New Zealand but found overseas[1]
- Leptinella filiformis - extinct in the wild[2]
Two species are thought to be extinct but there may be insufficient data to make an assessment:[2]
- Myosotis traversii var.cinerascens
- Pseudognaphalium (one species)
The New Zealand Botanical Society describe additional species as being extinct:[4]
- Muellerina celastroides - extinct in New Zealand but found overseas
- Myosotis laingii
- Pterostylis nutans - extinct in New Zealand but found overseas
