List of future North American area codes

This is a list of future area codes in the North American Numbering Plan, which are in the planning stages for area code relief in various numbering plan areas (NPAs). The assignment methods and dates are subject to change, but today, new area codes are typically assigned to overlay plans.

*Indicates exhaust date of the existing area code(s) that will require relief.[8] Others with exhaust dates within three years (by the first quarter of 2024) that currently do not have an approved relief plan and relief area code: 209, 303/720, 480, 516, 707 (369 and 627 were reserved for this as part of a three-way split, but an overlay with one of them - or some other code - will likely be chosen), 819/873 (468 is reserved, but another area code may be chosen), and 910.
