Marie D. Jones

Marie grew up in a small town in New York and began writing at an early age. The daughter of a geophysicist, she was introduced to the world of science by her father, Dr. John Savino, whom she later wrote a book with about the Toba, Sumatra supervolcanic eruption 75,000 years ago. Her mother was creative and inspired Marie’s love of writing and storytelling and at age 5 ½ she wrote her first book titled, “Life on Marse” (sic) about living on the planet Mars. She started successfully selling her work as a teenager after moving cross-country to San Diego, California in 1974. She wrote reviews and feature stories for “Tuned In Magazine” and “Video Update” and began selling short fictional stories to small literary publications. She published some horror short stories in men’s magazines, and began reviewing movies and videos for “Entertainment Today” in Los Angeles. She was on the staff of her high school newspaper and became editor in chief of the Clairemont Arrow in her senior year.

She went on to write features and reviews for her college newspaper, the San Diego State “Aztec” and sold her writing to local and national magazines. She worked full-time in a variety of jobs, and began screenwriting under the mentorship of television writer Irv Cooper. During her late teens and early 20s, she was Vice President of the San Diego Animal Welfare Coalition, which became the Animal Rights Coalition, and was active in the animal rights and anti-nuclear movements. She wrote her own newsletter, “We the People” as a teenager and distributed it at protests and at local libraries. She was also Vice President of the San Diego chapter of PETA for one year, and worked with the Animal Liberation Front. She married and moved to Los Angeles in her mid-20s to pursue a career writing for film and television.

She lived for over fifteen years in Los Angeles and pitched to movie and television companies. A UFO enthusiast since childhood, she served as the Vice President of Public Relations for the Los Angeles Mutual UFO Network. She worked at various film companies, and ended up at Warner Bros. Records for eight years as the executive assistant to the President of the Black Music Division before moving back to San Diego after the Northridge Earthquake.

Back in San Diego, she became the head of North County San Diego Mutual UFO Network. She began working full-time writing inspiration gift books and non-fiction books that combined her love of science and the paranormal in 2004. She also wrote for dozens of magazines about paranormal and metaphysical subjects, including “Whole Life Times,” “FATE Magazine,” “The Light Connection,” “Paranoia Magazine,” “Paranormal Underground,” and others. She also became a regular writer/contributor to Publications International and New Seasons inspiration gift books, of which she contributed or wrote solo over fifty titles. Her short stories appeared in several Chicken Soup for the Soul titles, and in Hot Chocolate for the Soul.

Her second non-fiction book, “PSIence: How New Discoveries in Quantum Physics and New Science” published in 2007 by New Page Books is still considered today a seminal publication by those in the paranormal field and garnered her the praise of the likes of New York Times best-selling author, Jim Marrs, who wrote a cover blurb saying, “Marie Jones has joined the list of forward-thinking individuals who are taking us to the next level in both science and our understanding of the universe and our place in it.”

She has written over two dozen books to date and her first traditionally published horror novel, “13” will be released by Vesuvian Media Books in July 2021.[2] In 2018 and 2019, she became an independent filmmaker, writing and co-producing two short films, “Kings Boulevard” for RockChalk Pictures, and “Graduation Afternoon” for IronTree films, which was a part of noted author Stephen King’s “Dollar Baby” program.[3] She sold a romantic comedy in 2020, “Mistletoe Connections,” to Larry Levinson Productions and optioned a number of screenplays to 881 Productions, as well as a television series called “6” to Global Genesis Group.

Marie has appeared on numerous segments of the History Channel’s “Nostradamus Effect” and “Ancient Aliens” series,[3][4] and she has been interviewed on over two thousand radio shows worldwide, including many visits on Coast to Coast AM Radio,[5] the Shirley MacLaine Show, Midnight in the Desert, QPsience, Feet to the Fire, Paranoia Radio, Ground Zero with Clyde Lewis, Jim Harold’s Paranormal Podcast, KPBS Radio, Dead Ari Radio, and Higher Side Chats.[6] She also appeared numerous times on Whitley Strieber’s Unknown Country [7]

Her work has appeared in numerous anthologies [8] and she has contributed Forewords and chapters to many author’s books. She formerly blogged for Jim Harold’s Paranormal Braintrust,[9] and on horseracing for Sports as Told By a Girl. She also wrote for Ancient-Origins.net with her former writing partner, Larry Flaxman.[10]
