Career

Directing-acting-producing

In 2016, Redmond directed and starred in the independent film, The 6th Degree, a psychological thriller that he also wrote and co-produced. The cast included Redmond, Mackenzie Astin (The Facts of Life, Scandal, Homeland), Jessica Morris (One Life to Live, Role Models), and the award-winning Turkish actress Fadik Sevin Atasoy in her first American role (Blue Lodge, Usta). The film's original jazz score was composed by music veteran Shie Rozow, who's credits include Avengers: Age of Ultron (2014), Guardians of the Galaxy (2014) and Dark Shadows (2012) and Oz the Great and Powerful (2013). During the 2016 Cannes Film Festival, the film was picked up for distribution and was eventually released worldwide on Amazon Prime.

In 2017, Redmond wrote and directed the comedy horror short film Allen + Millie: A Short Romance (2017). Starring Scream Queen Brooke Lewis (iMurders; Slime City Massacre) and Courtney Gains (Children of the Corn; Back to the Future), the short garnered 31 short film awards from such festivals as the Los Angeles Film Awards, the Sicily International Film Festival and more.[1]

Screenwriting-acting

In 2000, Redmond, along with fellow first-time scribe, Ivy Williams, sold the college thriller “I Would Die for You” to Columbia Pictures for high six-figures.[2] The character-driven thriller set on the U of California, Santa Barbara campus, was set up by producers Jorge Saralegui and Channing Dungey of their then Warner-Bros based production company, Material Films, but the film was never made.

In 2007, Redmond wrote and starred the independent film If I Had Known I Was a Genius.[3] Produced and directed by Dominique Wirtschafter, the cast included Oscar Winner, Whoopi Goldberg as Redmond's mother; Oscar nominee Sharon Stone as his drama teacher; Keith David as Redmond's father; Tara Reid as the love interest and supporting cast members Debra Wilson, Della Reese, Andy Richter , French Stewart, David Denman, Nadia Bjorlin and Julie Hagerty. The film premiered January 23, 2007 at the Sundance Film Festival.[4]

Acting (film)

As a film actor, Redmond is best known for his cameo role as "Detective Kevin" in David Fincher's universal cult classic film, Fight Club (1999). Redmond's other films include the role "Daryl" in Matty Rich's groundbreaking independent black ensemble film, The Inkwell (1994); K-11 (2012), the directorial debut of Jules Stewart's (mother of Twilight star Kristen Stewart) that focused on transgenderism and social inequality; Jeff Abugov's The Mating Habits of the Earthbound Human (1999); and the 2000 comedy, How to Kill Your Neighbor's Dog, alongside Kenneth Branagh and Robin Wright.

Acting (television)

In 1990, legendary television producer, Steven Bochco, wanted to add diversity to the national prime-time landscape by hiring actors of color. Handpicked from hundreds of auditioners, Redmond became the first black teenager to star as a series regular on a major network. Redmond joined the cast of Doogie Howser, MD at the start of the show's 2nd season and he remained until the series ended in 1993.

Redmond would go on to work with Bochco on two more prime-time network series; first in the recurring role of "Officer Lucas" on NYPD Blue (1993-1994), and then as "Mark Washington" in two season of Murder One (1995-1996).[5]

In 1999, Redmond starred as series regular "Phil" on the sitcom Family Rules, starring Greg Evigan. His other television credits include 21 Jump Street (1990), Family Matters (1990), the 1995 revival series Get Smart (1995), Mad About You (1997), Vengeance Unlimited (1999), Angel (1999, 2000), The Drew Carey Show (2003), and a cult-like cameo as "Loud Man at Party" in Season 10 of Curb Your Enthusiasm.[5] (2005).[2]

Publishing

In 2012 Redmond published the erotic e-book, Poker Night.[6][7][8][9]

Redmond has been a featured guest of Reddit Q&As[10] and numerous entertainment podcasts.[11][12] Since 2015, Redmond has been a popular recurring interviewee on the YouTube filmmaking vlog channel, Film Courage where his candid videos about working in independent film are some of the highest viewed on the channel.[13]

Personal life

On August 2, 2008, Redmond married movie caterer and internet cooking influencer, Isis Heuser, in Las Vegas. In less than 2 years, Heuser's blog, YouTube channel, Pinterest, Facebook and Instagram accounts, Chew On This TV have racked up over 100,000 views and likes.[14][15] The couple currently has 1 child and they live in Manhattan Beach, California.
