Marty Nunataks
The Marty Nunataks (80°9′S 155°14′E) are a group comprising about six nunataks in the western part of the Britannia Range, Antarctica. The group lies midway between Haven Mountain and Vantage Hill and extends east–west for 7.5 miles (12 km). The nunataks rise to over 2,000 metres (6,600 ft), with local relief on the order of 200 metres (660 ft). They are named after Jerry W. Marty, who was involved in Antarctica from 1969, first as a construction worker at South Pole Station, and later, from 1995–2001, was engaged in on-site contract support to the Office of Polar Programs, National Science Foundation, as a Construction/Operations and Maintenance Coordinator for South Pole Station modernization.[1] The name was given in 2001.[2]
